Just days after the horrific attack in Las Vegas stories of bravery, heroism, and American strength come to light. Husbands and wives shielding each other from the bullets, complete strangers helping people to safety, and people running into the danger zone to help. Two such stories involve Taylor Winston, and Thomas Gunderson.

Taylor, a Marine veteran, was attending the concert with his girlfriend when Paddock opened fire on the crowd. Taylor ended up stealing a truck to provide aid and transport to the wounded.

Sheer luck had that truck positioned right where it was and with the keys in it. Taylor Winston was able to transport three groups of injured, 20-30 in all, to the hospital that night. 

In an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Winston said:

“I think a lot of my training helped in the event, helped me keep a cool head,” Winston said. “But at the end of the day, we just knew we had a mission to get as many people to safety.”

As for the owner of the truck?

This exchange between Winston and the owner will leave a smile on your face.

Thomas Gunderson was also at the Route 91 concert. He was shot in the leg during the attack. On Wednesday President and Mrs. Trump visited Gunderson and many others in the hospital.

Thomas posted the video and these comments on Facebook.

I will never lie down when the President of this great country comes to shake my hand! There may be plenty of issues in this country but I will always respect my country, my president and my flag. Shot in the leg or not, I will stand to show my President the respect he deserves!

He was wounded, he was hurting and in pain, but that wasn’t going to stop him from standing out of respect for our country and for the President.

Sure, he didn’t stay standing for long, but the important thing for Thomas was that he STOOD.

On the day prior to President Trump’s visit, Thomas posted a thank you note on his page.

I’d like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has called me, text me, stopped by or anything else. I can’t explain to you in words what it means to me. It’s pretty boring and painful lying here in this hospital bed but reading all the comments and the overwhelming amount of love y’all have shown me has kept a smile on my face and definitely kept me entertained. I would like to ask all of you to please pray for all the families affected by this tragedy. I feel so very blessed that not only am I alive but my gun shot went through and through. Many people have passed or are in critical condition and I’m asking as your friend or family member to please reach out and show those people’s families all the love you can. Do something nice for them. Show them the love you have showed me. I know that there is so much pain and grieving that comes along with a horrific incident like this but I would ask that we try and still somehow see the good in the world. On Sunday night 1 evil man showed us just how cruel this world can be. In return, thousands upon thousands of people showed the world just how thoughtful, caring and kind this world can be.

Y’all have made me feel so loved and I’m eternally grateful for that! Pray for Vegas, pray for the families affected and pray for the world. May God bless America!!
