Do we file this under “why we can’t have nice things” or “example #982,458 of how Twitter lets people be jerks in real time”? You make the call.
Back in August, the White House highlighted a letter it had gotten from a 10 year old boy who offered to come mow the White House lawn.
Well, today, the White House made this happen. Frank Giaccio, now 11 years old, from Falls Church, VA, got to mow the White House lawn.

And not only that, the president stopped him in the middle of the lawn mowing to talk with him. Young Frank was so hard at work – and had earplugs in – and didn’t even notice the president at first.
Frank said he wants to be a Navy SEAL when he grows up. "Maybe he'll be president," said @POTUS. Invited him into the Oval Office. pic.twitter.com/2VfU0fAyvU

And while normal people thought…
This is really a neat story, especially for this young man.

… the haters on Twitter sprung into action. Because Twitter lets people be nasty without having to invest much effort into it.
I didn't know that the white house advocates unpaid child labour
— Paul (@Archer_toursfc) September 15, 2017
Does Ivanka know about this? She has a position for him in a sweatshop!
— FLP (@orptica1) September 15, 2017
Perhaps we should be asking why there is a boy mowing the White House lawn? #childlabor #checkhispapers #minimumwage #WhyIsntHeInSchool
— Elle (@fearlessandwet) September 15, 2017
There's no way that Trump isn't screaming "SCHNELL" at this poor confused labor-child pic.twitter.com/RSYao1VG2X

So a kid is taking away some adults full time job. How is it that he is allowed on WH grounds and other ppl are not?
— JoK (@99MorningCoffee) September 15, 2017
You just can’t with these people. And some people are particularly vile, and went above and beyond to show their small-minded jackassery.
lol looks slightly disabled. Look at trump take advantage of disabled children. It shouldnt surprise anyone given where his clothes are made
— Sabrooooo (@Sabrooooooo) September 15, 2017
he didnt mow a huge dick into the lawn? fucking square

If your life so petty and small that all you can do is insult an 11 year old doing actual work on Twitter, seek help. You need a life outside of 140 characters. Maybe you should go mow a lawn yourselves.
Everyone fighting on Twitter over letting that kid mow the white house lawn, you are the heroes who will save us all.
— Comfortably Smug (@ComfortablySmug) September 15, 2017
Seriously. When you live your life tweet by tweet, thinking that you actually say things that people care about, then you feel no compunctions if you happen to be rude, insulting, and vile to kids with dreams along the way. I’ll tell you one thing, though, Twitter – Frank Giaccio had a more meaningful and significant day than you did.

Every kid who gets to meet a president will remember it forever.

Why do adults, especially those on Twitter, make every single danged thing political??? The White House did a very nice thing. President Trump took the time to personally thank Frank and give him an experience that he will always, always remember. Good grief, people on Twitter, let the 11 year old have the biggest moment of his life without stepping all over it!
Frank Giaccio is going to be successful in life. The people insulting him by way of their desire to mock Donald Trump? Not so much.
I’m filing this story under “the post-millennial generation is doing just fine.”
I’ll tell you one thing, though, Twitter – Frank Giaccio had a more meaningful and significant day than you did.
Absolutely true.
I’m sure we all remember those kids in school who could only make a snarky comment to anyone who had an exciting experience, or accomplished something.
These twits from twitterland just haven’t grown up. Emotionally they are late pre-teen/early adolescents.
Frank says he wants to be a Navy SEAL. Of course he does! Dude’s using a push mower. He’s already a bad ass. 😉 Go, Frank!
Twitter – People with way too much time on their hands.
