Because your toddler is clearly biased. Never mind the adults who create the bias:

I know I have mentioned loving where I live here in the Pacific Northwest. I really do love it here. Especially when I read about things like “anti-bias classes” for toddlers.

The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington is offering up such a class this Friday. “A is for Anti-Bias” is a two-hour class designed to provide strategies for children ages 3-6 and their parents on creating a culture of “inclusion”. What is “anti-bias” training? Take a look:

Anti-bias curriculum is an approach to early childhood education that sets forth values-based principles and methodology in support of respecting and embracing differences and acting against bias and unfairness. Anti-bias teaching requires critical thinking and problem solving by both children and adults. The overarching goal is creating a climate of positive self and group identity development, through which every child will achieve her or his fullest potential.-Teaching for a Change

Keep the word methodology in mind, here because there is a method to the madness. This event is sponsored by Teaching for a Change, the same organization that is proud to bring high school students the curriculum entitled “Resistance 101”. From the website:

Since the election, student protests across the country against bigotry and injustice have been inspiring. Now students need the opportunity to learn the history of people’s movements in order to deepen their protests into organizing that can win real change.

Students must learn to think critically about our nation’s history and learn the lessons of social movements to make this a more just society. The master narrative of social movements being won by individual heroes and large demonstrations won’t serve young people well.

So, in reality, this class is yet another grooming tool for “The Resistance”. There’s the methodology they’ve mentioned.

I can see it now…a happy Friday night/play date in Olympia with nothing but gluten-free, Red Dye 40-free, 100% organic “sustainable” munchies and Prius-driving parents learning how to mold their children into good little social justice warriors for the global community on this planet Earth should we all not disintegrate due to climate change before they turn 18 and go off to college. Big yawn. Here’s the deal. Kids are biased. Boys gravitate towards “boy” things; trucks, Legos, Nerf (gasp) guns. Girls gravitate towards dolls, princesses and dress up. At this age, they don’t care if their friend of the same gender happens to have tendencies to want to play with toys aimed at the opposite gender. They don’t care if their friends are white, brown, black, blond or Asian. They wouldn’t care if an alien came down from Jupiter and wanted to play with them! The only bias against gender norms, nationality and color of skin children learn between the ages of three and six is from the parents themselves. As a parent myself and many parents who have come before me will attest, children are the most honest, undiscriminating individuals on this planet when it comes to making new friends and socializing.

Isn’t it bad enough that we have teachers forcing their bias on kids? We have teachers taking Legos away from boys and giving them only to girls in the name of “gender equity”? Bad enough Kindergarteners have to sit through classes on Transgender issues (a concept most of them would not even be able to grasp)? Horrible enough that we have changed the “Pledge of Allegiance” to “The Flag Salute” in some of our schools? I mean, really? What the hell is that?! And we have the kicker of them all, teachers imposing their political discourse and beliefs on our kids when they should be sticking to reading, writing and arithmetic. Now, on top of all of THAT, we have to call attention to bias that simply would not exist in the make-up of a child unless we put it there before kids learn their ABC’s in some cases. Bias simply does not exist unless one has been indoctrinated into thinking the bias exists, which perpetuates the circle of bias and then gives way to movements such as “the resistance”. Bias calls privilege out into the forefront and elevates those who are deep in the throes of learning about it above those they are studying who are the very subjects of these biases. It’s their covert way of making themselves feel good and putting one another on a pedestal above the subjects of bias. It’s the parents’ way of feeling good about themselves (without ever having to do anything about the wrongs of the world we live in) and their way of saying, and in turn teaching their kids, that they are indeed better and more privileged than the poor, unfortunate subjects of our collective “bias”. The adults teaching these classes are either too obliviously indoctrinated themselves into believing this or honestly feel that they are fooling people with their false sense of caring.

Honestly, if an adult has to go to a “parenting class” on “bias”, he or she may be part of a bigger problem and not a solution to the woes of America. Liberal parents, get a flipping grip. Skip the gluten-free, Red Dye-40-free, all-organic play date. Get the stick out from you-know-where and let your kids be kids. Take the Prius out to a park or a family arcade on a Friday night instead of to a lecture. Let the boys play in the mud and grab their weapons for the “zombie apocalypse”. Let your girls have all the pink My Little Ponies they want if that’s what they gravitate towards. Put your kiddos in a school in a diverse community if it means so much to you and don’t even utter the word “bias” and watch them grow up with a beautiful multicultural group of friends. Teach everyday kindness sans the political agenda. And for crying out loud, don’t impose your mental disorder on them. The next generation deserves better than this.
