Tonight President Obama will address the nation from the Oval Office, the first such address since he announced the end of U.S. combat operations in Iraq in 2010. It’s only the third of his presidency. He’s even cancelled his scheduled Sunday appearance at the Kennedy Center.

Obama will be addressing the terror threat to the United States, particularly after the past week’s attack in San Bernardino, California, which the FBI has determined was terrorism.

On Saturday morning, Obama met with his national security team to discuss San Bernardino and the terror threat to America.

Can it be? Has Obama finally arisen to smell the coffee, the bitter brew that Islamic terrorism has dashed at the feet of Americans? And, will he finally, finally, admit that the source of that terrorism is Islamic?
Eh, maybe not. In Saturday’s weekly address from the White House, Obama did address the attack in San Bernardino. He did talk about terrorism. He extended condolences to the loved ones of the dead. But he failed to describe the terror as Islamic. And he launched into his favorite whipping boy: guns.
Consider, too, that the national security team weren’t the only people with whom Obama met this past week. On Friday he met with former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was severely wounded in a shooting event in Tucson, Arizona, in 2011. Accompanying Giffords was her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, who has joined her in advocating for stricter gun laws. I’m sure they weren’t having a friendly chat about Obama’s golf game.
So which Obama will we see in the Oval Office tonight? Will we see a patriot determined to protect his nation? Will the words “Islamic terror” finally emerge from his lips? Or will we see this address on the terror threat morph once again into a diatribe on the evils of guns, and how more laws are needed that will do little more than to impinge upon the rights of law-abiding Americans?
“Has He Finally Smelled the Coffee?”
No. He’ll spend a short time on the attacks, do his best Kevin Bacon in telling us to be calm, all is well, don’t be Islamophobes, then quickly switch to lecturing us about the need to bring in the “Syrian” refugees and massive gun control. He’ll be utterly dispassionate while discussing the shooting, then get all worked up about gun control.
Last night at dinner, Sinatra said, “If that bad boy eats into the start of my 100th Birthday Celebration on CBS at 9 o’clock, heads will roll.” To which a dozen Moslems down here raised their hands to volunteer.
