It’s America’s Birthday. So Of Course We Celebrate Somalia.

It’s America’s Birthday. So Of Course We Celebrate Somalia.

America turns 250 this year. Two hundred and fifty years since a group of determined troublemakers looked at the most powerful empire on Earth and said, “No thanks. We’ll do it ourselves.” So naturally, some American city halls decided this was the perfect moment to spotlight Somalia instead.

The pride flags barely made it back into storage before some city governments found another flag to raise.

Only in modern America could America’s 250th birthday become a celebration of another country.

Now, the Columbus Parks and Recreation account has deleted the post and insists it was all a mistake. Sure it was. That’s one awfully detailed “mistake” to draft, approve, publish, and leave up until people started noticing. If you buy that explanation, I have a bridge I’d love to sell you.

The post from the Recreation and Parks Department was deleted shortly after Fox News Digital reached out for comment.

After publication, a city spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “A social media post created by a city department falsely stated that City Hall would raise the Somalian flag in recognition of Somali Independence Day. While the City recognizes and respects the aspirations of people around the world to live in freedom, this post was inaccurate and has been deleted.” – Fox News

The social media post may have been deleted, but did they still raise Somalia’s flag? Unless you live in Columbus, I guess we’ll never know for sure.

A Large Population In Columbus

If you’re wondering why Columbus keeps finding itself in stories like this, there’s a reason.

Columbus didn’t become home to one of America’s largest Somali communities by accident. It became a major refugee resettlement hub in the 1990s, and decades of continued migration and family reunification turned it into one of the largest Somali communities in the country.

That helps explain the size of the community. It doesn’t explain why City Hall felt the need to celebrate another nation’s Independence Day.

There used to be an expectation that if you came to America, you became an American. That didn’t mean forgetting where you came from. It meant putting America first because this was your new home.

At some point, we decided that wasn’t necessary anymore. Now you are told people don’t have to assimilate. They can keep one foot in the old country forever, and apparently our own governments are expected to help them do it.

If you think I’m making too much of this, consider what Ohio State Rep. Ismail Mohamed has publicly said about his priorities. This X post from last year:

Look, if Somali-Americans want to celebrate Somalia’s Independence Day with family, friends, food, music, and a parade, that’s their business. That’s their right. But why is City Hall involved?

And here’s the question nobody seems willing to ask. If Somalia is still the country that inspires your greatest patriotism, why did you leave it?

America took in Somali refugees because we were told Somalia was too dangerous for them to return home. The idea was to help them become Americans, not to turn American government into Somalia’s cheering section.

This Is Larger Than Columbus

Columbus said its social media post was a mistake that they are not raising Somalia’s flag. But other cities are at full staff. This isn’t a one-time incident. It’s a growing trend.

Boston is fully on board. Actually, it’s the third annual raising of the Somali flag. They even have a proud promo for it.

Buffalo, New York, has done the same, with city officials standing alongside members of the local Somali community.

Minneapolis prominently features the Somali flag during its annual Somali Independence Day and Somali Week celebrations. Minnesota is still dealing with a massive fraud scandal involving some organizations tied to the Somali community, but never mind that. Apparently the priority is raising flags and holding ceremonies.

This is what happens when identity politics and socialism become the guiding philosophy of local government. Americans stop being the priority, and America stops being the point.

That’s what makes this more than a Columbus story. This isn’t an isolated incident or a one-time lapse in judgment. It’s becoming normal for American city governments to officially celebrate another nation’s independence, and hardly anyone in charge seems willing to ask why City Hall is involved in the first place.

Community groups can celebrate whatever they want. That’s America. But City Hall isn’t a neighborhood association, a cultural club, or a foreign embassy. It represents an American city in the United States of America. During America’s 250th year, maybe government buildings could spend a little more time celebrating the nation whose flag already flies outside.

Let’s be clear here, there is NO SUCH THING as a ” Somali american”. They are Somalis first, last and always, they have allegiance to their tribe above their country as well, but in no case to they put America first. None of them contribute anything positive to this country, and every last one should be sent back.

By that logic, there’s also no such thing as an Irish American, Italian American, German American…

Or is it only ok if the country of origin is primarily white?

      • Darleen Click says:

Who assimilated and who did not? It’s not a melanin thing, it’s a cultural one.

But racists like you don’t care.

      • Scott says:

Nice try genius. Its by their actions. My heritage is Irish and German, of which I am rightly proud, but I owe no allegiance to either, I am 100% Americanand have / will defe d her as needed. If only you could say the same.. now kindly F off and let real A.ericans celebrate the birth of our nation as it should be, without whiny little shit-weasels like you trying to muck up the party.

I knew someone would call me out for using that term. And rightly so! I should have changed it.

  • SFC D says:

I took a little trip to Somalia in 1993. Wasn’t terribly impressed. Somali “immigrants” bring nothing of value to the USA. It’s a repeatedly failed state that should be barred from immigration.

  • CDC says:

Democrats(white liberals aka communist) believe that the Golden Goose is America’s National Bird.
Somalians send back home yearly 1.2 billion which amounts to 10 percent of Somalia’s GNP of around 12 billion.
Perhaps the liberals filling the city hall offices have to import their friends and compensate them in order to remain friends who’s votes on election day are greatly appreciated.

I was born in England, spent my youth in New Zealand, and have been in the US since 1980. I tell people I love all my countries and sometimes we have two flags on our flagpole, but the stars and stripes is always at the top

  • A reader says:

So by this logic, Norwegian Americans can’t celebrate their heritage, correct? Or German? Or Irish? I guess someone should tell that to my neighbor who proudly has his Norwegian flag on full display year round. Or maybe it’s just if the country in question isn’t primarily white?

See, the hypocrisy of this whole post is this: when the Irish and Italians and Germans and Eastern Europeans came, they were all told they had to assimilate. They were all attacked and berated and discriminated against to a certain degree. They were all told that they “bring nothing of value” to the country and that immigration from their countries should be limited. (Don’t believe me? Google is free!) And yet, now each of them have festivals and are roundly celebrated to a certain extent. Your issue isn’t the immigration or the flag. Your issue is that they’re not white, and you might as well be up front about that. Because we all know you’re not saying such things about the white South African immigrants who came over at Trump’s invitation.

  • Scott says:

Bitter gay man again running his mouth about things he knows nothing about, claiming we’re all racists, when thats his party.. numbness ignores the fact that his party was hating on the white south Africans who came here, because they weren’t the ” right” kind of immigrants.. never mind that they were being targeted for death, by govt policy, purely because of.rhe color of their skin.. ( and never mind that they’ve all been productive once they arrived, and are working to assimilate, unlike the trash that reader so loves..

  • A reader says:

Also, re: chain migration: are you for real? You do realize that nearly every white American has roots in this country due to chain migration, right? Unless you are full Native American, your family likely came here in part due to chain migration. Going all the way back to even before the US Revolution, that was how many new settlers/immigrants came. One group would come, settle and then tell their friends and family and they would come. Later in the 1800’s and early 1900’s, immigrants would often write home to family members or friends and tell them about their new life and encourage them to come. And they would even sponsor them. That’s literally how my grandfather came: his father used his network to correspond with people already here in the US who then sponsored him so when his family came through Ellis Island, they could say they had a place to live and employment.

But again, I guess it’s only ok if they’re white, or what is now considered white. This author and any other commenters who support her hypocrisy would do well to either visit Ellis Island, do research into their own family histories or even just watch videos from Ellis Island on US immigration.

  • Scott says:

Wow, are you really so dense you dont see / understand what youre writing???
To quote you” who then sponsored him so when his family came.thrlugh Ellis Island, they could say they had a place to live and employment”..
Thats EXACTLY the point!!!! They came through a central location, were medically vetted to ensure they werent introducing disease, and they had to prove they would NOT be a burden on society… they exact opposite of the invasion of today.. pray tell, what is the percentage of Somalis on govt assistance??.? Its upwards of 80% last i checked.. not to mention all the fraud they’ve been engaged in..
So maybe shove your ” hypocrisy” claims.where they belong and look in the mirror… youre almost as big a fraud as the Somali crowd in Minnesota!

  • Wfjag says:

Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern Rights, Hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a Single Star!

Oh! Wait! That’s not what they meant?
    Oh well. That’s very different.
    Never mind.
