Milano Olympics And The U.S. Heroes To Root For

Holy Risotto alla Milanese! Americans at the 2026 Milano Olympics have not distinguished themselves to their fellow countrymen, but there are a few patriots representing the U.S.A. Preparing yourself for the disrespect from the whiny athletes is painful for those of us who love this country. Fear not, we have some true Red, White and Blue Heroes to cheer for.

Reading our dear Lisa’s post “Bad Sportsmanship And Whiny Powder Hounds” took me back to the bad old days. Back in the olden days, Olympic athletes from the USA used to be poor. They had janky equipment, no place to practice and low-paying off-season jobs. Not now. They are sponsored out the wazoo and spend the off-season teaching guitar and piano (Chris Lillis). They also distribute their overflow corporate sponsorship clothing to those less fortunate.

If those athletes of old had political feelings they kept them to themselves. They dreamed of a sponsorship and didn’t want to ruin their chances of getting one. Non piu. Unless you get a sponsorship from a patriotic company there won’t be any riders in your contract about what you say about the country you represent.

I believe there was a time when criticism of your country stopped when you left your country. The execrable Salon posted “Mixed emotions”: US Olympians wrestle with patriotism”.

The remarks come amid high-profile criticism of the U.S. government’s immigration policies, including controversial raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and broader public debates over the nation’s values and international image. While athletes generally avoid political commentary during the Olympics, some competitors are increasingly using their platform to express personal perspectives on U.S. policies.

The athletes’ statements were shared widely on social media, sparking conversations about the intersection of sports, nationalism and morality. Some fans praised the honesty, while others questioned whether politics should be injected into international competition.

Thank goodness there were never any deportations before Trump…sarc. The Olympic Charter has prohibitions against political statements. And, there has never been an evil infesting the United States, like Donald J. Trump…sarc.

For a kiss my cannoli moment, here is more from Salon:

This tension mirrors other moments from the opening ceremony, including visible crowd reactions to U.S. officials and anti-ICE demonstrations from competitors. Together, these incidents illustrate how the Winter Olympics have become a platform not just for athletic achievement, but also for public expressions of conscience.

As the games continue, observers will be watching to see how athletes navigate their roles as representatives of their country while balancing personal ethics and the expectations of global audiences.

If those whiny baby Olympians didn’t learn from the tennis players in Australia, maybe they could learn from our Olympic military members. Yes, Paolo, there are full-time Army athlete (and Air Force) who don’t diss their country. From Veteran Life:

When the Winter Games open in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, a small but remarkable group of Americans will compete on snow and ice while continuing to serve on active duty in the U.S. military. These competitors are not ceremonial representatives or honorary affiliates, but soldiers and airmen balancing Olympic-level training with military careers defined by discipline, accountability, and constant readiness.

Their presence on Team USA highlights a story rarely seen during Olympic broadcasts: elite athletic performance alongside ongoing military service. These active-duty Olympians pursue excellence in two demanding arenas, answering to both coaches and commanders.

The soldiers and an airman:

And, they do deploy:

You can roll your eyes when those America hating snow people coming on the screens. Don’t forget to wave your flags, cheer your brains out and have a slice of pizza for the Milano Olympics when your Hooah Army Olympians appear.

Flag on her shoulder and a gold medal too.
