Captain/Senator Kelly says that he sunk two boats, but I guess no one got killed, they just got “really big boo boos”. If the Democrats didn’t have hypocrisy, they would be more morally bankrupt than they are.

Hakeem Jeffries is bleating “not to expect Dems to pursue Hegseth impeachment”:

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) signaled Monday that Democrats are unlikely to pursue impeachment against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth over alleged follow-up strikes against boats in the Caribbean.

Why it matters: Impeachment has been a fraught subject for Democrats this year, with Jeffries acknowledging that Republican control of both chambers of Congress makes any impeachment effort virtually dead on arrival.

“Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor of the House of Representatives, and we know that’s the case,” Jeffries said at a press conference Monday.

“Donald Trump will order them not to do it,” he added.

The current controversy over US strikes against suspected drug boats helps demonstrate why.

Doubts about the legality of the strikes have clouded the military campaign and have surfaced in practically every news story about the matter. While the Pentagon’s spokesman has repeatedly said “we are on firm legal ground,” journalists keep quoting legal experts and even some current officials who say otherwise.

Hegseth’s crackdowns on press access to the Pentagon complex have not deterred rigorous reporting about the boat strikes. On the contrary, the reporting has been led by news outlets that handed in press passes.

The skeptical news coverage intensified last Friday when The Washington Post reported on a so-called “double-tap,” or follow-up strike, after a September 2 attack off the coast of Trinidad.

The Post, citing anonymous sources, said Hegseth gave a “spoken directive” to kill everyone aboard the vessel, so when two survivors were seen “clinging to the smoldering wreck,” a second missile was fired and the two men “were blown apart in the water.”

Confirming the information about the follow-up strike, CNN reported that people briefed on the matter “said they were concerned that it could violate the law of armed conflict, which prohibits the execution of an enemy combatant who is ‘hors de combat,’ or taken out of the fight due to injury or surrender.”

Do drug traffickers follow the “law of armed conflict”? I am clearly inhuman, but really? We have not noticed their humanitarian nature or being signatories to the Geneva Conventions.
