Luigi Mangione Gets A Very Online Defense Lawyer

Despite the attempt by some to cast him as a social justice warrior who “got pushed too far,” Luigi Mangione is a part of a wealthy family who is going to make sure that he gets the best defense lawyer money can buy in New York.

And now he has a very well connected defense lawyer. Luigi Mangione might be forfeting his inheritance, but there are plenty of suckers who are willing to donate to his legal defense.

However, he has a lawyer in Pennsylvania (where he is currently being detained on gun charges and fighting extradition to New York), and will need a lawyer in New York. Apparently, his parents are willing to shell out the money for his defense.

Karen Friedman Agnifilo will represent him in New York. Friedman Agnifilo previously worked as the chief assistant district attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office under Cyrus Vance Jr. for seven years and is a veteran with deep experience in New York City’s criminal justice system. She has worked in private practice since 2021.

“She’s got as much experience as any human being, especially in the state court,” one longtime New York prosecutor told CNN. “She knows every corridor, every judge, every clerk in the courthouse.”

Friedman Agnifilo, who previously served as a CNN legal analyst, declined to comment.

A representative for Friedman Agnifilo declined to comment on who is paying his legal fees.

It’s pretty obvious that family is footing the defense bill for now. But they picked THIS attorney? This is someone who has connections to media – she’s a now-former CNN analyst and has worked at the very left-wing Trump hating Meidas News as a co-host of a legal show – and celebrities.

To top it off, Karen Friedman Agnifilo is very, very, VERY much a leftist Democrat. She might not be commenting now, but her X feed is FULL of comments that tell us a whole lot.

She commented back in September that “nobody should be assassinated. not (sic) even Trump.” That… is going to make her job right now a whole lot more interesting, isn’t it?

Everything that we have seen so far from Luigi Mangione has indicated that he lived a very online existence pampered by his family’s wealth. Did he, or someone in his family, see or listen to Karen Friedman Agnifilo and decide that THIS was the lawyer for him? This is as sure an indicator as any that the Luigi Mangione defense is going to lean into the online rage against corporations that the murder of Brian Thompson has stirred up, in order to find a jury pool who feels any kind of sympathy for Mangione?

That sympathy might be in short supply as more facts about Luigi Mangione come to light. According to UnitedHealthcare, he was not insured by them, and had no personal connection to the company.

UnitedHealth Group, the largest healthcare organization in the U.S., said it has no record of 26-year-old Mangione being a client, NBC News reported. The suspected assassin allegedly mentioned “United” in a manifesto raging about the health insurance industry before Thompson was gunned down in Midtown Manhattan on December 4. New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told NBC News that Mangione “possibly” targeted UnitedHealthcare because of its size.

“We have no indication that he was ever a client of United Healthcare, but he does make mention that it is the fifth-largest corporation in America, which would make it the largest healthcare organization in America,” Kenny said. “So that’s possibly why he targeted that company.”

According to Kenny, Mangione seemingly sustained “a life-changing injury” in July 2023, which caused him to go to the emergency room. After turning 26, Mangione would have been forced off his parents’ health insurance if he was not already covered under his own plan. Fox Business reported that Mangione’s mother was also not a member of UnitedHealthcare.

That’s going to make his motivation for allegedly assassinating Brian Thompson in cold blood a much more bitter pill to swallow for his online fan club. Also, it is now being reported that Mangione’s back surgery was considered a success – by him.

In July 2023, Mangione wrote in a Reddit post that he had decided to get surgery.

“I got caught in this loop for a year, all the while putting my life on hold in my 20’s and damaging my nerves while I waffled on the decision. I have surgery scheduled in two weeks and I keep wondering why I was so afraid of it,” he wrote.

According to his posts, the operation was a success.

An image posted to an X account linked to Mangione showed what appeared to be an X-ray of a metal rod and multiple screws inserted into his lower spine.

“Surgery was painful for the first couple days, but I was shocked that by day 7 I was on literally zero pain meds,” Mangione posted on Reddit in August 2023. “Obviously will be awhile until I get into rigorous activity, but it was way less of a big deal than I had anticipated.”

His last Reddit post is dated May 17, but other statements around that time suggest he wasn’t experiencing unexpected complications or renewed back pain. He appears to be advocating for the type of surgery he received months earlier.

He posted in early April about the gear he brought on a two-month backpacking trip through Asia that included some cross-country motorcycling, saying he had found “the perfect balance between minimalism and practicality.”

In late April, he advised another Reddit user with a back problem to “keep trying different surgeons” and, if necessary, convey an inability to keep working.

“We live in a capitalist society,” he wrote. “I’ve found that the medical industry responds to these key words far more urgently than you describing unbearable pain and how it’s impacting your quality of life.”

The real question will be what caused him to “disappear” from his friends, and why he was reported missing by his family. The new information doesn’t quite track with surgery being the turning point of his spiral, since it apparently occurred over a year ago. Did something happen on his backpacking trip? He reportedly was experimenting with mushrooms – did he take something that caused a psychotic break? There are a lot more questions being asked now, and the answers that were being given out before are not matching the facts being presented. If Luigi Mangione allegedly assassinated Brian Thompson just because he was the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, and with no other reason than that, this misplaced sympathy that far too many people have for him could – and must – dissipate.

And his new lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, is going to have to have to come up with a whole new defense if her client chose his target with no personal motive.

    The fact that anyone is supporting this scum is proof positive of how far our nation has fallen. My God have mercy on us, and allow us to come back from the brink.

      Just keep reminding them:

      It’s called ObamaCare in honor of the President who proposed it;

      The people who voted it into law have last names ending in “(D)”. They exempted themselves from its coverage;

      When enacted, the President of the Senate and who presided over the vote leaves the White House on January 20, 2025.

      Should they denounce someone who obeyed the law, or those responsible for it?

    These people have rejected the Constitution, natural rights, and the cultures of the best societies. On the one hand, we should know better than to use force as individuals, deadly force in particular, to exact justice. That prerogative remains with the society-community-tribe as a whole. Those contrasts are fundamental to the rule of law (as opposed to the law of the jungle, embraced by leftist extremists).

    • Scott says:

      The leftists don’t actually embrace the law of the jungle. What they embrace is modified version of that, where they can operate under those rules, knowing that those they prey on are constrained by the rule of law. If they we ever forced to actually exist in a world where those they would prey upon also lived by the rule of the jungle, they would fold like a cheap suit.
      You need look no further for evidence of this than the fact that Burn Loot Murder and Pantifa only riot in deep blue cities, not re, rural areas, where they instinctively know they’d get their asses handed to them.

    I looked at the Mangione’s family healthcare holdings website. Their nursing homes offer another carrier as their health care insurance plan. It’s reasonable to assume that is probably what they themselves carry as part of the “family corporation” insurance. Usually, closely held family businesses try to form a close association with one insurer for all of their different business interests to get better rates from the total number of employees across their different enterprises.

    This will be interesting to watch.

    Alvin Bragg’s record so far:

    Convicted an innocent man when allowed to make up a crime and put the case before a Judge whose daughter used it to raise over $10 Million for the defendant’s political opponents and who instructed the jury that they didn’t have to agree on what the supposed criminal conduct was, rather that they could use a Chinese Menu approach and choose one from Column A, or one from Column B, or one from Column C;

    Acquitted innocent man who defended people of color, including women with young children, from an insane man with a long arrest record, including violent crimes, for over six minutes until the NY [Been Defunded] PD finally arrived, despite racial rabble rousing;

    Now have to try an unmistakably guilty man, who committed a cowardly murder by waiting in ambush to shoot an unarmed man in the back, and then repeatedly shooting him as he was lying helpless on the ground, although the perp had no personal or professional dealings with the victim or his company, but it’s a White on White crime so there’s no racial angle to invoke.

    It appears to me that Luigi’s Nona was trying to ensure that her children and grandchildren stayed out of organized crime. A very wise woman, that Nona. Little did she know that her grandson would commit a most notorious “hit” on an innocent man without even being connected to a crime family.
