New Mexico Governor Kicks 2nd Amendment To Curb

The 2nd Amendment nor any Constitutional right doesn’t matter to New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. Any citizen who open or conceal carries is not allowed to do so for thirty days due to her declaring an “emergency.”

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced on Friday a new public health order that outlines immediate actions aimed at quickly reducing gun violence and illegal drug use in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.

The recent shooting deaths of a thirteen-year-old girl on July 28, a five-year-old girl on August 14, and an eleven-year-old boy on September 6, as well as two mass shootings this year spurred the governor to declare gun violence a public health emergency on Thursday. Today’s public health order includes directives to curb the gun violence and drug abuse that the Governor has declared to be public health emergencies.

So, regular LAW-ABIDING citizens will be punished by having their 2nd Amendment rights taken away. This is the fix she came up with. It’s utterly dumfounding, it’s useless, and I cannot believe law enforcement is on board with this.

Supposedly, kicking our 2nd Amendment rights to the curb for thirty days will cause all crime to cease, drug use and abuse to drop, and no one will be shot or killed in that time span. The plan itself is very restrictive to law-abiding citizens.

Under the plan, citizens with carry permits will still be allowed to possess their weapons on private property such as gun ranges and gun stores if the firearm is transported in a locked box or a trigger lock or other mechanism is used to render the gun incapable of being fired, according to the statement.

The order also prohibits firearms on state property, including state buildings and schools, as well as parks and other places where children gather.

Under the order, licensed firearm dealers will be inspected monthly by New Mexico’s Regulation and Licensing Division to ensure compliance with sales and storage laws. Additionally, state health and environmental officials will begin wastewater testing for illegal substances such as fentanyl at schools.

And what about the criminals? Will they comply with this new directive? No. Heck, even Grisham admits they won’t stop!

I’m glad that some in law enforcement are pushing back against this. Again, kicking the 2nd Amendment to the curb doesn’t, won’t, and never has stopped a criminal bent on using a gun to commit a crime.

Grisham’s tanking of the Constitution for thirty days is stepping WAY out of bounds. And again, she admits this new type of gun control won’t stop the criminals, but it will send a message.

AGREED. And the message she is sending it that citizens will be helpless to defend themselves against criminals.

The thirty day ban also won’t stop the drug crisis. Which is due, in part to the fact that our border is non-existent and the fentanyl crisis has been inflicted on us because of Joe Biden’s open border polices. Furthermore, New Mexico as with other progressive liberal states and cities, has been giving a pass to the criminals. As Dana Loesch points out here, no matter what Grisham says, crime has been on the rise because of a failure to prosecute.

Albuquerque Police Chief Gorden Eden said the recent spike was in part due to the case management order that went into effect in 2015. The state Supreme Court order that only affected the Albuquerque area aimed to reduce the population in jail by moving cases through the courts more quickly.

“With the case management order we started to see cases being dismissed by the District Attorney’s office and started to see the jail population decrease,” Eden said. “Quite frankly, what I think happened is there were just too many decisions being made in the criminal justice system and that has created a real perfect storm for our state and for the 2nd judicial district.”

So, her solution is to stomp all over the 2nd Amendment and put law-abiding citizens at risk.

Criminals all over Albuquerque are laughing and celebrating right now. This 30-day order won’t put a dent in crime and it wouldn’t surprise me on bit if crime rates RISE during this period.

The Constitutional implications of this dictatorial move, especially post Bruen, are vast. Yet, according to New Mexico Governor Grisham, she has every right to do this.

And…that is where she is totally wrong. Our Constitutional rights are solid bedrock. You don’t get to kick any of those rights to the curb just because your own policies and choices have led to the criminal element getting out of hand.

UPDATE: Even some very liberal Democrats understand how bad this is.

There is that…so watch and see if they try that on the federal level given it somewhat worked during Covid!

She’s made her decision. Now let’s see her enforce it.

The sad part is that people will keep taking this sort of abuse. Citizens are afraid to push back.

    • GWB says:

Because they were taught to rely on the very administrative offices she controls to handle all “criminal” actions. At the time New Mexico became a state, this would have been handled swiftly and with prejudice. But, “We’re not that sort of people” anymore.

At least it seems most of the LEO’s are refusing to enforce this unconstitutional BS…

Well, an important big chunk of them are not. The PD and sheriffs in Albuquerque will not enforce her edict.

begin wastewater testing for illegal substances
And, what are you going to do when you find it? In an entire section of the municipality? Because unless you are drilling into someone’s sewer line immediately outside their home, you have zero information you can actually use toward charges or even pushing someone into rehab. And even though someone’s effluent flows into the public sewer system, actually testing it before it reaches the street will require a warrant. And after the point where it joins, you can’t say it’s theirs.

How soon can this person be removed from office?
And this is the key. Until The People make it physically painful and financially ruinous for her to do this, they will keep doing it. But if they sit back and hope the authorities will do something, it’s not so much that she’s taken their rights away as that they have abdicated them.

crime has been on the rise because of a failure to prosecute
Yes, but the “rising crime rate” she used to justify this move isn’t there. The murder rate has actually gone down in Albuquerque the last 2 years. She’s using sensationalism (the deaths of children, no less) to implement her trial run of “We have a ‘health’ emergency, so we’re shutting off the Bill of Rights.”

Even some very liberal Democrats understand how bad this is.
You missed that even David ‘Camera’ Hogg bashed her! He agreed with Ted Lieu.
