You may know him better by his stage name “Five for Fighting,” but John Ondrasik is not your average rock star. He loves America and our military, for one thing. He also celebrates freedom. So in that vein, he just released a new song in honor of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, the freedom fighter of the hour.
Entitled “Can One Man Save the World?” Ondrasik highlights the unbelievable odds that Zelensky is facing as his country battles Putin’s military. He wrote in his description of the song:
“Like so many of you, I am inspired and in awe of President Zelenskyy, his wife Olena, and the Ukrainian people. Their courage and determination in the face of the Russian onslaught gives hope and fortitude to all freedom loving people. In Zelensky I sense we are witnessing a modern day, Winston Churchill. It may make you ask yourself; Can One Man Save The World?”
Perhaps Ondrasik’s roots lead him to be so passionate about Ukraine; he is of Slovakian descent. The nation of his ancestors had once been under Soviet rule, too.
Here’s the video of “Can One Man Save the World?”
But this is not the first time John Ondrasik has used his songwriting talents in support of various causes — causes which those on the Left ignore. In 2018, for example, he wrote “Song of the Innocents” for Gosnell, a film about the infamous abortionist.
In September, 2021, after the debacle in Afghanistan he also released a song about another hard subject. Called “Blood on My Hands,” it’s a moral indictment of how the Biden administration abandoned American and Afghani colleagues when the US abruptly pulled out of Afghanistan. It includes lyrics like this:
“Winkin Blinken, can’t you look me in the eyes?
Willy Milley, tell me when did you decide?
‘This Will Defend’, your sacred motto now means…
Nevermind.General Austin, is there no honor in shame?
Can you spell Bagram without the letters in Blame?
Did Uncle Joe stick a drip in your veins…”
John Ondrasik didn’t stop with that song, either; he also released a related docu-series called “Meet the Heroes.”
And there’s more.
John Ondrasik has also maintained a charity website since 2007 called “What Kind of World Do You Want?.” This website has raised over $250,000 for non-profits like Augie’s Quest, Autism Speaks, Fisher House Foundation, Save the Children, and Operation Homefront.
But he’s still not done. Most recently Ondrasik teamed up with a host of other musical artists to raise awareness about the plight of girls in Afghanistan.
Truly John Ondrasik is one of the Good Guys. And he’s also going on the road for the first time in eight years, no doubt taking his message with him. He’ll be appearing across the South starting in May. So check out his website, and if he shows up in a town near you, you might spend an evening enjoying the talents of a patriot who honors what’s good and brave.
