As Cancel Culture continues to target anyone and anything that remotely causes icky FEELINGS, it’s not particularly surprising that the House voted yesterday to remove the Confederate sculptures from the U.S. Capital. Again! They tried this last year too, but got busted in the Senate. I am a trying to remain hopeful that our jelly-spined Senators stay strong this go round as well. It would be yet another filibuster moment for the GOP and we do seem to be holding our own on some of these crazy Progressive agenda items. But in this new legislative action, I am reminded once again of the theory of Year Zero.
Year Zero was never a term I’d heard in my life until about three years ago. When it was first introduced to me, I thought it sounded very tin-foil hat-y and shrugged it off. But what we continue to see over these last couple of years is an honest-to-God assault on our history. And it’s not even just here in the U.S. Below, Peter Whittle, who founded an organization in the UK called Save Our Statues, speaks to the same eradication of history across the pond:
Today, I realize that the toppling of statues, the re-invention of our very language, the gas-lighting that we see in the media everyday about what we know we know while they tell us we don’t… is all part and parcel of the same thing. It is very much what the communist Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge did in Cambodia in the mid-1970s. They were inspired by the concept of “Year One” from the French Revolution and the destruction of history under Mao Zedong. The concept of year zero is as follows:
“The idea behind Year Zero was that all culture and traditions within a society must be completely destroyed or discarded, and a new revolutionary culture must replace it, starting from scratch. All of the history of a nation or people before Year Zero would be largely deemed irrelevant, because it would ideally be purged and replaced from the ground up.”
Now doesn’t that feel like a kick in the pants? Sound familiar? At some level, I guess Year One and Year Zero were the original Cancel Culture. Which is why the destruction of our visual reminders (our Confederate sculptures, our complicated books, our toys) will at some point create a horrible, no good, very bad day! As the Spanish philosopher George Santayana once said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
Which is why I agree with Kevin McCarthy in his tweet after the vote:
Democrats are desperate to pretend their party has progressed from their days of supporting slavery, pushing Jim Crow laws, and supporting the KKK.
— Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) June 29, 2021
But today, the Dem Party has simply replaced the racism of the Klan with the racism of Critical Race Theory https://t.co/FJtnaFK19U
The ideas behind Critical Race theory are so noxious because they literally obliterate all the progress we have made over the last 70 years. Critical Race Theory and the 1619 Project completely rewrites the history of America, the Civil War, the attitudes of our Founding Fathers. And yet, both these concepts are being pushed upon our children as part of their indoctrination in our tax-funded public schools.
I find it absolutely appalling that while more than 30% of teachers have never even HEARD of critical race theory (like what rocks have they been living under??) they are MORE than happy to approve of teaching it! According to this article in the Federalist:
“Half of parents and close to 60 percent of teachers indicated critical race theory should be included in civics curriculum. The report notes it wasn’t clear if this response combined with the lack of knowledge about CRT indicates large numbers of people supported CRT in schools out of a desire to be “inclusive” without knowing what they were including.”
And that right there is part of the problem! In this current climate of virtue signaling by everyone on the left, I don’t think half of the Democratic Congressmen (oh hell, AND women) know what they are proposing when they vote to remove these Confederate sculptures. The Progressives are hell bent on eradicating our history in every way and the rest of them go along because it sounds good, not understanding the larger picture.
Whether it’s voting to take down Confederate sculptures at the U.S. Capitol by our own Congress, the toppling of statues during BLM “peaceful protests”, or the re-writing of our American History with Critical Race Theory and the 1619 Project, there is a movement within the furthest left to deliberately destroy any understanding of what made America the greatest nation in the world. They cannot succeed in their goal to create a revolution without sowing division between us or allowing us to have any view of our world other than the one they want us to see. It is part and parcel of the phenomenon of Cancel Culture, which is just another moniker for Year Zero.
