If you think the media and corporate witch hunt for Paula Deen is about racism, you’re wrong. Even the guy she called ‘the-word-that-must-not-be-spoken-except-by-rap-stars-that-visit-the-White-House’ thinks the racist thing is nuts.
The “foodie” elite have been after her for years. The very idea that a Rubenesque, butter-lovin’ jovial Southern woman could swoop in and grab a huge chunk of the lucrative food television/cookbook market right out of the bony fingers of bi-coastal very serious and boring food assholes…well, food assholes have been livid ever since she drawled, “more butter, y’all!”
Food assholes don’t like “real” American cooking. And by “real”, I mean the kind where you go to Wal-Mart or the local supermarket to get ingredients that aren’t certified organic and chef approved, to cook good food that your friends and family will actually like. Food assholes will rapture on about “regionally authentic” biscuits and gravy, but the biscuit flour better be locally ground from organic wheat watered by the sweat of unicorns and the gravy rendered from fat from heirloom hogs that listen to Avett Brothers songs piped into the barn. And they REALLY don’t like untrained, uneducated, rotound, slightly unhealthy, Southerners that steal their epicurian thunder. The minute Paula Deen sashayed onto the scene with her folksy talk and simple, available, familiar, non-precious ingredients to make sometimes fattening food Americans really love and eat….they’ve had it in for her.
Because food assholes are really food nannies. They want to be the arbitrators of taste and nutrition.
Which brings us to this….the number one food nanny in all of America. And why Mrs. Obama might be just a tiny bit pissed at Miss Paula. And if Michelle ain’t happy, you can bet lots and lots of corporate and media honchos ain’t gonna be happy either.
And now it all makes sense, doesn’t it? Following the liberal smear playbook, label your opponents racists and ruin their lives the best you can.
And if you don’t believe me, you’re a racist.
Well, the Food Network also has Trisha’s Southern Kitchen show, and even Giada, while no Southern girl, uses plenty of butter and fat in her cooking.
Everyone other than the metrosexuals know that the best food in the world is cooked by 300 lb black women in greasy spoon diners in the South.
About 40 years ago, a friend took me into a diner called Loretta’s Corner Kitchen in Lexington, Kentucky. I must’ve been the first white guy to enter the place in years, and I think I set off gongs when I walked through the door. It was a typical greasy spoon diner, with cracked vinyl covers on the stools, a well-used strip of flypaper hanging from the ceiling, and the walls and ceiling a bit dingy from years and years of cooking smoke and grease. I had meatloaf, smashed potatoes and gravy and green beans that were the best food this side of Heaven.

I have been saying for days that this hunt is result of Paula’s statement about Michelle’s visit to the show. It is Chicago way.
I disagree. While there is an undeniable streak of anti-Southern bigotry driving the campaign against Deen, I believe the main reason is far darker.
Modern-day progressive thought is deeply totalitarian in nature, and all totalitarian movements require terror in order to maintain its hold on power. Progressives need absolute conformity in thought, word and deed, or else they feel their entire worldview will collapse. Thus, the periodic pogroms and lynchings that occasionally engulf some of their own loyal followers.
Ironically, as far as I can tell there is no one individual or group driving the lynching of Deen. But mobs don’t always need orders from on high.

Sierrahome says: BTW as a Hoosier boy I make some of the finest biscuits and sausage gravy known to humankind. Leaving out any amount of pork fat, milk-fat or buttermilk in the biscuits would be sacrilege. My grandma would tell you to “put a little sugar in it” which is what she did in cooking, her words and her actions all her life. She got the recipe from my great grandma. All of that generation lived well into their 90’s while also enjoying highballs and tobacco products.

Cecile says: I’m a pretty intuitive person. And when Paula Deen first came on the scene, I liked her immediately. She is clearly a woman who takes life seriously, but doesn’t take herself too seriously. I had the pleasure of meeting her when I attended a Paula Deen weekend seminar. That was about the time her first grandbaby was due any second, so Jamie was not there … but Bubba, Captain Mike, and Bobby were present with Deen. She was non-stop, knowledgable, affable, hysterical, and completely natural. WHen I met with her face to face, she was beautiful and sweet. And it crossed my mind, as I looked into her eyes … she was tired. She works her ass off, and has since she was a youngster.
Paula continued to grow in success and public awareness, and my spidey senses kicked in. I thought, “She needs to be careful; why the heck am I thinking that?!”
And now I get it: the segment who want to bring down someone who breaks the mold on “who’s supposed to make it.”
She’s been thrown under the bus by Lisa Jackson – a disgruntled, overweight, female, Southern ex-employee whom Paula took in off the streets and helped in a wide variety of ways. And man, the eager pile-on by media has been breathtaking. It tells us a lot. The white boys in the corner offices have had her in their crosshairs from the beginning. Let’s get up inside their heads for a minute, and take a look:
*Her life’s been unremarkably low class: she’s been on her own, and raising her younger brother since she was a teenager.
*It was a bleak, uneducated existance … down in Savannah, GA, in the early ’60’s. How the hell did she climb out of THAT?!
*WTH does she think she is? Hers is a textbook case for public assistance! Where did she get that damned work ethic? She’s supposed to have out-of-wedlock babies, and be on WIC and food stamps!
*She’s gettin’ waaaaay too successful … well “above her raisin’.” Time to knock her down a peg or two. Hmmm … have to watch for the perfect opening.
*Lisa Jackson! ***BINGO***!! White, self-righteous assholes rule!!
I would say, “The End,” but it’s not. White, self-righteous assholes might *think* they rule … and they might win a battle or two. But they don’t win the war. So they’ve got another think comin’.
And – whether she knows it or not – Lisa Jackson is a tool. She’s being used to bring down someone who, as far as the elite are concerned, was never supposed to make it to the top to begin with. I cannot help but wonder a couple of things: 1) How Jackson is sleeping at night, and 2) Where she’ll end up, once the dust settles.

If you look up the word Mulatto in Webster’s Dictionary I think our President fits comfortably therein. To me if I’m the white mother and white maternal Grandparents that raised him I’d be pissed at his ethnicity only identifying him by his absent father’s skin color. Just sayin’.

On the handful of times I have watched Paula Deen’s show, I have been struck by how she so easily reaches out to viewers. I’ve seen the others, too, and enjoy their shows, but when’s the last time we got invited to a barbecue with the family? That’s Paula Deen.
Another thing that’s on my mind is how we call ourselves, well, most of us do anyway, a Christian nation. Christians tout being charitable and forgiving, which, it seems to me, would be the actions of choice in this case. Lord knows I’d like not to be judged by some of the actions or language of my past, so why would we impose anything different upon Paula Deen?
If Food Network and publishers can’t get over themselves and forgive and forget a moment that transpired half a lifetime ago, then maybe my viewer time is better spent elsewhere and I should tell them so.

She has become rich beyond her (your) wildest dreams by selling viewers a crock (literally) of crap that will lessen your life expectancy by several years; she herself has type II diabetes and Deen is (was) a paid spokesperson for the Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, whose main export is insulin… wait…what? Her own son is also getting rich by hosting a show called “Not My Mama’s Meals” where he essentially puts a healthy spin on her hot, buttery, fat laden creations! Am I the only one that see’s the irony here? She even appears on his show and undoubtedly profits from this show that re-creates her dishes in a healthier fashion! Lastly, what does Paula Deen know about furniture, linens, frozen entree’s, beach wear, shoe’s, flooring, or toiletries? NOTHING! But, because she is full of greed she has attached her name to anything resembling a dollar. THIS HAS MADE HER A TARGET! I don’t care what racial epitaphs she has used…I have used worse (today, even! What makes her deserving of all this criticism is that she has become a whore…a whore to the dollar.
