Gavin Newsom is at it again. Burning the state down piece by piece while channeling Joe Biden. This time he commutes the sentences of 548 death row inmates to life without parole.
He’s not only “sparing” the lives of those criminals, he claims he is ensuring those evil criminals will die in obscurity.
Gov. Gavin Newsom of California moved to spare the lives of all 548 prisoners on the state’s death row on Thursday in the largest mass commutation of death sentences in modern American history.
Mr. Newsom said he made the decision because he finds capital punishment morally objectionable. He reduced every death sentence to life in prison without parole, a sweeping move that will require a review by the state’s highest court in some cases and could draw legal challenges.
“State-sanctioned killing is incompatible with California’s values, undermines the foundations of our legal system and diminishes each of us,” Mr. Newsom wrote in an open letter to California residents. “I know we cannot execute people in our imperfect legal system and remain true to our core values, first among them justice and human decency.”
He claims, in his open letter to all Californians, that he carefully considered the suffering the victims have gone through.
I have decided to commute every death sentence. Some have said I should not grant clemency to people who committed the “worst of the worst” crimes. I carefully considered the different categories of capital crimes and offender characteristics. I have learned, however, from speaking with victims harmed by these crimes, that each experiences their loss as the worst of the worst. I have concluded that attempting to distinguish among crimes and offenders for clemency would inadvertently create two classes of murder victims – those whose perpetrators who deserve the death penalty and the rest.
Read the above again. And then read it out loud. According to Gavin, someone who rapes and murders a child is just an “offender” not a criminal. And no, you do not get to tell victims who should suffer more or less, which is what asshat Hair Gel is doing here. And I’m pretty darned sure the victims and victims families don’t care which murder is worse or not as bad. They lost a loved one to a heinous evil.
You wanna know who Gavin Newsom just commuted on California’s death row?
Lemme tell you…
Richard Allen Davis, who broke into a 12-year-old’s house during a slumber party, kidnapped Polly Klaas at knifepoint, raped her, and strangled her.

This from Christina Buttons is an important read regarding the Danielle van Dam case.
I have been waiting 24 years for my neighbor David Westerfield to be executed for the kidnapping and murder of my 7-year-old neighbor, Danielle van Dam. And now thanks to @GavinNewsom, it looks like it will never happen.

California voters voted to KEEP the death penalty in place… TWICE. And now Gavin, as he’s headed out of office, decides to light this particular fire.
The more you read his, “I’m doing a good thing for you and be thankful for it” statement, the more one realizes that he doesn’t give a rats ass about the victims or their families.
Remember the good old days when politicians used to favor law abiding, tax paying citizens over murderers, rapists, illegal aliens, drug traffickers, fraudsters, etc., etc., etc.?

In addition to just arbitrarily commuting the sentences of 548 evil people sitting on death row, Gavin Newsom just created another gigantic legal problem. Senate Bill 94 could enters the chat. As VG Darleen, with her legal background summarizes...
SB 94 allows judges to resentence LWOPs to lesser sentence if 1) crime happened before 1990 2) inmate has already served 25 years. It even gives judge discretion to vacate the original conviction and resentence on any lesser included charge. Dems want this because of “compassion” for elderly perps who, because of age, they assume are now no longer threats.
It DOES NOT matter how old they are. A jury decided. The sentence must be upheld. Period.
But here comes Gavin. He nullified every single jury decision in these cases, essentially informing them that they got it wrong and he’s here to fix their mistake. How incredibly arrogant of him.
He isn’t thinking about the victims ,such as Polly Klaas, nor the families left behind. He isn’t thinking about the laws nor the juries that had to sit through those trials and render a difficult decision.
Consider 8-year-old Michael Lyons, who disappeared after school in Yuba City in 1996. Robert Boyd Rhoades sexually assaulted, tortured and murdered him. A jury returned a death verdict, affirmed by the California Supreme Court in 2019.
Or consider 12-year-old Polly Klaas, abducted at knifepoint from a slumber party in 1993 and murdered by Richard Allen Davis. A jury returned a death verdict; the trial judge declined to reduce the penalty, and the California Supreme Court affirmed. Blanket commutation would replace that judgment because the governor opposes the death penalty, rather than because he identified grounds for mercy particular to Polly’s case.
Clemency is a legitimate constitutional power. It can correct injustice or recognize circumstances warranting mercy. Credible claims of wrongful conviction and other grounds for relief deserve serious consideration. But the authority to grant clemency carries a responsibility to exercise it wisely and justly. That requires examining each case on its merits, not treating hundreds of distinct judgments alike. How do we explain otherwise to the families we asked to trust the system?
Gavin wants to be President. He doesn’t care about the victims. He doesn’t care about the costs to the families. He sure as hell doesn’t care about the costs to California taxpayers.
Instead, he’s lighting the state of California on figurative fire piece by piece in order to pander for votes from the socialist crowd. Some of whom are planning an ad campaign touting his “bravery.”
Meanwhile the victims, the families of the victims, and the jurors who sat through those trials and had to make an incredibly difficult decision are sacrificed on the altar of political expediency.
