I’d like to know who had the under-12-hours square in the “North Korea starts asking for summit” office pool?
After President Trump’s abrupt withdrawal from the summit earlier today, including this amazing letter, a gobsmacked North Korea is now saying
Kim Kye Gwan, a top official at North Korea’s Foreign Ministry, said in comments published Friday by the country’s state-run news agency KCNA that Trump’s decision runs counter to the global community’s wishes for peace on the Korean Peninsula.
“We reiterate to the US that we are willing to sit face to face at any time and in any way,” said Kim, who has negotiated with US counterparts for years.
What professional politicians need to understand is what any savvy and successful business professional knows:
You never make a deal you aren’t willing to walk away from.
Indeed.
I’m curious to know how an idiot like pelosi or menendez will spin their stupid comments from earlier today on the subject…

Hey Lil Kim, duya udastand Queens dialect? Whatca go’n give us b’fore weel talk tuya?
I said this was all posturing on both sides. The stock market went down about 250 Dow points, but slowly recovered. This is nothing more than the ebb and flow of diplomacy. It was a mistake to react so quickly to what was highly likely to be a temporary hiccup.
The alt left media was giddy yesterday that President Trump called off the meeting. They immediately went into their he wants nuclear war instead rant. Now they have to backpedal and revert to backhanded praise mode.
Trumped. Again. Bigly.
This is what diplomats (in the modern, post-Western-CIV world) refuse to understand: if any agreement is better than none, you will ALWAYS get a BAD deal.
Trump’s letter was a masterpiece of “well, hey, I can see you’re not in the mood for this right now, so I’ll go do some other things, and you can get back to me when you’re ready” negotiating. The incredible part is, given the NorK’s passive-aggressive psycho diplomacy, it worked so fast.
Maybe Trump should give everyone in Foggy Bottom a copy of his Art of the Deal. And a history of Jefferson’s presidency. It can’t hurt our foreign service, it can only help.
BTW, reading the actual announcement by the NorKs, it’s still passive-aggressive, blaming Trump for this turn of events. But not nearly as aggressive as normal. (And it tries to take credit for the peace effort. Of course.) But it expresses regret, and hope for getting back to the peace path.
One private intelligence group noted:
In watching North Korea for more than 40 years, we have never seen it turn around a reply this quickly on a matter of such great consequence.
