This is the reserved media seating at the Kermit Gosnell trial, posted at Patheos. Could there be a more perfect representation of the media blackout on this trial? There is, at least, the pretense of an excuse: the Gosnell murder trial is a “local crime” story. Gosnell’s House of Horrors has received little to no attention in the mainstream media, and why? Because it could harm abortion, of course. As Mollie points out,

Just think, in the last year, we saw the media drop any pretense of objectivity and bully the Susan G. Komen Foundation into funding Planned Parenthood. And then we had how many months of coverage focused on someone calling a birth control activist a bad name? And who can forget every pro-life person in the country being asked to respond to Todd Akin’s stupid remarks about rape?

Better to hide a man who not only ran a disgusting abortion clinic, but killed at least two women and eight children than potentially harm the abortion industry, right? The same thing happened when the story first broke, and Gosnell was exposed. Abortion advocates were silent. They claim to be working on behalf of women, but when a monster like Kermit Gosnell is killing women and children, injuring them, infecting them with STDs, forcing them into unwanted abortions, and performing surgical abortions on bloody, unclean equipment… they’re silent.

It makes you wonder what they would have done if these people in the media had discovered Gosnell’s House of Horrors, and not the authorities. Would they have turned him in at all? Or would they have turned a blind eye? (Rhetorical question — we all know the answer to that.)

Meanwhile, other “local crime” stories like, say, Michael Vick torturing and killing dogs receive widespread media attention. So, an NFL player who kills dogs is front page news. A doctor who kills women and babies, and practices in filth and decay, is hushed up. Perhaps we should go plant a dead dog in the grand jury report. Because clearly, if Gosnell was killing dogs, the media would care. But killing babies… that’s no big deal. Right?
