Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that House Democrats will introduce a War Powers Resolution to bring President Trump to heel. She tries covering it in sanctimonious calls about “American safety,” but this is more pique than concern.
Democrats, drooling with glee when Iranian-backed militias attacked the US Embassy in Iraq, were pole axed when the President took decisive action, immediately securing the embassy and eliminating Qassim Soleimani – aka cutting off the head of the snake. Rather than being able to continue their partying over Trump’s Benghazi, they pivoted to actually criticizing the actions and want to hobble future actions.
Pelosi told Democratic members in a letter that the House will introduce a vote on a “War Powers Resolution” mandating that the administration’s military hostilities with regard to Iran would cease within 30 days if no further congressional action is taken. …
Pelosi in the new letter called the administration’s decision a “provocative and disproportionate military airstrike” that she said endangered U.S. service members and diplomats.
“As Members of Congress, our first responsibility is to keep the American people safe,” Pelosi wrote. “For this reason, we are concerned that the Administration took this action without the consultation of Congress and without respect for Congress’s war powers granted to it by the Constitution.”
Provocative? Maybe. Disproportionate? Hardly. As Nikki Haley observes:

Media tried to downplay that Iranian ex-pats and citizens of other countries publicly celebrated Soleimani’s death — from Canada to California, while the usual anti-American Leftists gathered to blather about “American Imperialism.” They don’t want you to know Soleimani’s actual history.
Soleimani acquired the nickname Wazir Al-Mustawtanat (minister of colonies) in reflection of the pivotal role he played in orchestrating Iran’s quest for regional dominance. Iran in 2003 initially sought to appease President George W. Bush, believing it could be next after the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. It was Soleimani who forcefully advocated and spearheaded the policy of bogging the US down in the bloody Iraqi quagmire by building a new generation of paramilitary forces which staged thousands of attacks against coalition troops, killing around 600. …
By late 2011 most diplomats were predicting that Bashar Assad would be driven out of power within weeks. Instead, Soleimani flew to Damascus and embarked on a massive campaign to bankroll the dictator and establish sizeable militia forces (using many of his Iraqi proteges).
Soleimani’s strategy ultimately achieved the impossible, with his forces wading their way through rivers of civilian blood to retake much of the country. Russia stepped up its own involvement only after Soleimani had personally overseen the recapture of Aleppo. Soleimani was also the architect of Iran’s intervention in Yemen, …
Parts of Iraq’s protest movement were quick to celebrate Soleimani’s death as an unexpected New Year gift from the Americans. Soleimani was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of protesters, personally ordering the deployment of snipers and deploying paramilitary units to confront demonstrators with lethal force. He pressured Iraq’s leaders to be even more aggressive in crushing the protests.
This War Powers Resolution has little to do with “keeping Americans safe”. Ask yourself, are the US embassy personnel in Iraq safer today than on Dec 31st?
The same Democrats who have been praying for a recession to hurt Trump at the ballot box reject any successful military action that will reflect well on him, too. They don’t care whether Americans suffer financially or physically, as long as they can remove Trump from office and punish anyone associated with, or who supports, the President.
Remember, he’s just a symbol. They really are after you.

Pelosi talking about respect?!? For the Constitution?!
believing it could be next after the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq
I have always advocated that we invaded Iraq first (since it had already regularly violated the terms of the ceasfire, and to simply eliminate the pain in our a**), then pivot through Iran into Afghanistan, and not stop until we had subdued Pakistan. (Of course, my plan never intended to nation-build, merely to destroy the termite nests then come home.) If, when we pivoted through Iran, if they were stupid enough to confront us, then we’d make a small detour to Tehran. We also wouldn’t have to invade Pakistan – as long as they changed their ways. But, if we had to, then we simply say “You’re welcome” when we get to Kashmir.
This War Powers Resolution has little to do with “keeping Americans safe”.
Well, that depends on what you mean by “safe”. If you mean “safe, as in locked in their safe space with a comfort doll and some crayons”, then yes, it would accomplish that.
If you mean “safe, as in nobody will screw with you when you travel abroad because you’re ‘Merican” then no, it wouldn’t achieve that , at all.
as long as they can remove Trump from office
Yep. Of course, they believe that once they’ve finally attained complete power, they’ll make amends to the rest of the world and they’ll be able to vacation wherever they see fit. After all, it won’t be themselves they’ll be tossing to the wolves.
The best thing about the attack is it induced a lot of ayatollah stooges and 5th columnists to out themselves.
I am pretty sure this iss an empty gesture. Any such resolution would need to g through the House, the Senate, and bbe signed by President Trump to override the war powers act. If I am right, there is zero chance of that happening. But, it would be another mark against red state Democrats.
The quote references Iraqi protesters twice at the end. I believe Queso Salami is responsible for shooting hundreds of Iranian protesters, not Iraqis. We were just roundly mocking Biden (who is a senile idiot) for making the same mistake.
I think they’re referencing the protests in Iraq against Iranian influence in their gov’t. Those were ongoing before the ‘mob’ attacked our embassy. Those folks were very glad we shwacked Soleimani. (Our media didn’t tell us much about those protests – just the pro-Iranian ones.)
And, yes, Soleimani is also (at least partly) responsible for killing the Iranian protesters in the most recent anti-gov’t demonstrations there.
The dude got around.
New War Powers Act? Damn Senile old Nacy does believe she runs the government!
