President Donald Trump had phone calls today with, first, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and, then, Russian President Vladimir Putin to try to end the brutal war on Ukraine. But, what if Putin doesn’t give a fat rat’s furry backside to put an end to the fighting?

Take a look at the image at the top of this post. Have you ever seen colder or more dead eyes? I believe that when Putin became a KGB agent that they extracted his puny soul. The list of his evil deeds is extremely long. If he gets his jollies sending men into the meat grinder what deal can Donald Trump offer him to end the war? Memo to Democrats: You put forward Biden, you own this. Trump’s phone calls began at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time and just ended. From The Hill:

President Trump opened his week with high-stakes phone calls on the war in Ukraine.

Trump first spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, before calling Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday morning. The conversations follow talks in Turkey late last week.

The president announced the Putin call in a Truth Social post Saturday. The call lasted about two hours, according to early reports.

Vladimir Putin was first out of the gate with his take on the phone call:

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he had a “very meaningful” phone call with President Donald Trump that lasted more than two hours Monday, though it’s unclear if they made any steps toward ending or pausing the war in Ukraine.

That would mean no steps forward were taken. More:

Putin, describing the call as “quite frank,” told reporters “we just need to identify the most effective ways of moving toward peace,” repeating his frequent talking point that any agreement needs to “remove the root causes of this crisis,” referring to the long and wide-ranging list of Russian demands that have been a nonstarter for Ukraine.

Trump will speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after the call with Putin.

The calls come as Trump has shown signs he’s growing tired of Putin’s refusal to agree to a ceasefire, ditching his friendly rhetoric and repeatedly threatening to impose new sanctions on Russia.

Following a meeting with Zelenskyy at the Vatican last month, Trump said Russia’s continued attacks led him to believe “that maybe [Putin] doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently.”

And that, folks, is the answer. Putin doesn’t want to end the war. He actually doesn’t care. Putin sends barely trained soldiers in to be cannon fodder with no thought to them or their families. Or the families of the North Korean soldiers:

Trump is America First. And like many America First Types, he doesn’t like waste. He has issued this statement on Truth Social:

Trump would have told us if the phone call hadn’t gone well. If the Vatican is serious and hosts negotiations this could be another epic triad for peace like President Ronald Reagan/Pope John Paul II/Dame Margaret Thatcher. Georgia Melonia will have to take the Margaret Thatcher part.

Let’s just hope Zelenskyy keeps his pie hole shut and doesn’t mess this up.
