Virginia strikes again. The same state that gave us Ralph Northam’s “let the baby be born, then we’ll decide what to do” moment now brings us Ghazala Hashmi, a Democrat running for lieutenant governor who said she doesn’t care if kids have access to sexually explicit material in schools.
Democratic Virginia Lt. Gov. candidate Ghazala Hashmi said she doesn’t “really care” if children have access to sexually explicit materials in schools.

There it is. The quiet part, spoken clearly.
Republican Senator Amanda Chase explained that moms with multiple kids don’t have time to review every library book before it lands in a backpack. A simple content label would help. Hashmi wasn’t interested. According to meeting records, she cut off the exchange, thanked representatives from the Virginia Library Association for their comments, and moved on without further discussion.
Then she tried to change the subject, saying she worries more about violence on social media than about sexual content in school books. Nice deflection, but the topic was school books, not TikTok. Violence and sexual content go hand in hand. Both numb kids to what’s right and wrong. One kills empathy, the other innocence. Maybe that’s why Hashmi would rather blame the internet than stand up to teachers’ unions and activist librarians.
Virginia Democrats keep saying the quiet part out loud. First, Ralph Northam calmly described what amounts to infanticide, talking about “keeping the infant comfortable” while a “discussion” happens between the doctor and the mother. Now Ghazala Hashmi is on record saying she doesn’t care what kind of sexual material kids can get in school libraries. These aren’t slips of the tongue. They show what the Left believes: parents are optional, and morality is flexible.
Virginia has become the test kitchen for every bad idea in the progressive playbook, from radical sex ed to transgender bathroom bills to library shelves that look like soft-core bookstores. Every time parents push back, Democrats like Hashmi call it an attack on freedom.
Freedom? Parents asking for labels on books with graphic content isn’t censorship. It’s common sense. If movies can be rated and songs can carry warnings, a fifth-grade library book with pornographic illustrations can too.
Hashmi’s not alone. Her fellow Virginia Democrats keep stumbling into scandals that show exactly where they stand. Virginia Democrat Jay Jones sent text messages saying he wanted to put two bullets in his opponent’s head. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker brushed it off, saying Jones apologized and people make mistakes. I know I sound like a broken record bringing up those texts, but it’s that important. Nobody else is talking about it. The media already moved on. And now we have another one saying she doesn’t care what kids read. Different issue, same attitude.
And as if on cue, Virginia Democrats are showing how far they’ll go to keep control. The Virginia Mercury reports they called lawmakers back to Richmond for a special session just days before the election. They want to change the state constitution and bring back partisan redistricting, giving themselves the power to redraw congressional lines. Republicans call it a power grab, and that’s exactly what it is. They want power so badly they’ll do anything to keep it, even pull Winsome Sears off the campaign trail to quiet her voice.
All of it points to the same thing: a party that will twist rules, dodge debates, and silence anyone who gets in their way.
Hashmi said she doesn’t care. Believe her. The Left keeps telling us exactly who they are. Different day, same playbook. If Virginians are tired of being the testing ground for every bad idea, Election Day is their chance to prove it.
