I suspect Barack Obama can’t wait to have 2010 over: the ascendancy of Conservatives, Tea Parties coast to coast, that historic Mid-term ‘shellacking’…all painful to be sure. But if you lose Chris ‘Tingles’ Matthews to the Birther Movement, you’re pretty much an epic fail.

Of course I get the premise. Chris Matthews denies he’s a birther and thinks they’re all nuts, blah, blah, blah. But then Matthews says this:
“It’s a settled issue and there’s nothing more anybody could do to convince them. But really, Hawaii or somebody from Team Obama should release the long-form birth certificate just to shut these crazies up.”
Settled? If it was, Matthews wouldn’t be talking about it being time for the releasing the long-form of Obama’s birth certificate – something the crazy birthers have asked for from the beginning.

Brian, Kate is NOT a freakin birther. She has said that many, many times.

My theory has always been that Obama is playing everybody with this birth certificate issue. He likes that his surrogates can discredit valid criticism of his policies by throwing the “birther” tag around, and to perfectly honest most of the most ardent birthers are certifiably loopy, so he keeps perpetuating the mystique. The more we’re talking about the birth certificate the less we’re talking about issues like, say, Obamacare, deficit spending, Afghanistan.
