Many were not happy about last week’s White House visit of Turkish President Erdogan and with good reason. Google Turkey, coup, and crackdowns to get an idea of what Erdogan is doing to his own country.
Needless to say, it seems that Erdogan and his thuggish bodyguards thought they could do the same thing here IN AMERICA. Kurds were protesting Erdogan’s visit outside Turkey’s embassy and demanding the Selahattin Demirtas, a jailed Erdogan opponent be freed, when this happened:
The following are other reports about the brawl:

The thing is…quite a few of those who attacked the protestors were Erdogan’s bodyguards! The police finally managed to regain control of the situation. Rightfully so, charges will be filed against his bodyguards and others who participated in the attacks.

The State Department’s response was infuriatingly weak.
Violence is never an appropriate response to free speech. We support the rights of people everywhere to free expression & peaceful protest. pic.twitter.com/MEm4jSmCXV

They were “concerned” about the violence by Turkish security personnel. Oh boy…
No direct condemnation of Erdogan's thugs. Greatz https://t.co/RKjbZOhSJa

Erdogan's thugs beat American protestors, on American soil, so badly they went to the hospital. What is the consequence for this? https://t.co/RKjbZOhSJa

Unfortunately diplomatic immunity may end up being a factor regarding charges filed but then dropped. Swell. Keep in mind, these photos before reading further.
Needless to say, Turkey’s statement on the matter didn’t help anything at all.

They condemned it alright… and tried to play on the sympathy that those in the suits were just innocent Turkish-Americans who were attacked. Oh really? This video sheds an entirely different light on the subject…
The fact is, Erdogan calmly watched the clash between his bodyguards/security detail and the protestors! Then he marched right on by as if this was no big deal. Well guess what??! It is a VERY BIG DEAL because his people engaged in violence on American soil! This happened outside the embassy grounds. And in fact, this happened last year during the Obama Administration!
Also, what will the consequences be for Erdogan's bodyguards? Second time in a row they've done this on visits to U.S. https://t.co/QxJEbPNWOW

Worth remembering that Erdogan’s guards attacked journalists when he was here last year. https://t.co/ukL9PfAOMd

Needless to say, lawmakers and many others are not thrilled with what happened and are, rightly so, calling Turkey on the carpet. Which has led Turkey and Erdogan to attempt a narrative rewrite.
The U.S. Ambassador was summoned ordered to meet with Erdogan today.
“It has been formally requested that the U.S. authorities conduct a full investigation of this diplomatic incident and provide the necessary explanation,” the Turkish embassy stated in a press release. “During the meeting with the Ambassador, it was emphasized that the lapses of security experienced during our President’s stay in Washington, which were caused by the inability of US authorities to take sufficient precautions at every stage of the official program, will not overshadow what in every other aspect was a very successful and important visit.”
The Turkish Foreign Ministry said the U.S. ambassador was given a “written and verbal protest” against actions that is said were “contrary to diplomatic rules and practices.”
OH REALLY??!! Let’s recap one more time.
Erdogan is in the United States for meetings.
Erdogan is jailing people left and right in Turkey for daring to have a differing opinion.
While he is here, people ON AMERICAN SOIL protest him and his government.
Erdogan’s security detail and bodyguards engage with and beat the crap out of the protestors.
And NOW Turkey wants the US and the DC Police to apologize and throw the protestors in the slammer??
Wait a damn minute
They're protesting
That we're acting
Over their thugs
Beating peaceful protestersIn America???
No, just NO https://t.co/JmuAXfjCBs

The unbelievable gall of Erdogan and his people!

Erdogan can go pound sand. You were on American soil when your people started beating up protestors. You don’t get a free pass, charges should be filed, fines or jail time assessed, and for damn sure the United States should NOT apologize!
Erdogan needs to be taken down a few pegs. Charge them, convict them, and hand out the maximum sentence possible.
seems that Erdogan and his thuggish bodyguards
thought theycould do the same thing here IN AMERICA.
FIFY
What’s the right answer? The cops should have given the Turkish bodyguards a Rodney King moment, then they should have been arrested, thrown in jail, then sent home on a friggin’ banana boat (no, we consider them to be a danger if they were on an airplane, so they’ll have to find some other way home; but they’ll leave our shores within 2 hours, so you’d better hurry).
Then Turkey’s ambassador should have been summoned and told he could pack his bags unless there was an apology forthcoming, like NOW.
This could have been construed as an act of war if those were American citizens (I doubt any of them were, or they carry “dual citizenship” – which means they were really Turks, imo). It has certainly been used as a pretext before.
See, this is the bit where people forget the other half of Teddy Roosevelt’s famous aphorism of “speak softly and carry a BIG STICK.” This is the moment a big stick would be appropriate.
