Theo Von Interview Of Donald Trump: Gold Standard

The 2024 Presidential Election cycle has been a chaotic, rule-breaking, hot mess and I am here for it. First, Joe Biden was incapable of spontaneous answers and then his anointed heir is kept in bubble wrap. Both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris get cover and protection from the Corporate Media. There is bright shining hope on the Right. The amazing, thoughtful conversation between President Donald Trump and certified genius Elon Musk was a beacon of what William F. Buckley, Jr. accomplished on Firing Line. Comedian and Podcaster Theo Von interviewed Donald Trump and it’s pure gold as in freaking great.

Aaron Ryan of Whiskey Riff had very similar thoughts:

I didn’t know I needed this in my life. This election cycle has already been insane. From the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, to the Democrats kicking Biden to the curb after winning the primary and installing Vice President Kamala Harris as their nominee instead, nothing really surprises me at this point. But I wasn’t expecting to see Trump sitting down with Theo Von. Of course the comedian has one of the most popular podcasts in the country with This Past Weekend. And the two have met before thanks to mutual friend, UFC CEO Dana White. So it makes sense that the GOP nominee might appear on the podcast at some point. And it was pure gold. If you’re familiar with Theo, you know that…well, his brain doesn’t work like normal brains. The things that come out of his mouth never fail to surprise me.

This isn’t a schtick interview like the Barack Obama/Glozell/Cereal/Bathtub interview. No green lipstick here. This was warm, funny, irreverent and respectful. Two men talk as equals with respect for each other and the lives they have each led.

Theo Von interviewed Trump at his Bedminster Country Club. Here is the full interview:

Yes, we can thank Melania’s boy, Barron, for turning Trump on to Theo Von. And, UFC’s Dana White for putting them together. Listening to them talk, you hear the respect and feel the camaraderie between them. More than that, they are two authentic people. Neither of them is sanitized for your protection. They are what they are. I am not trying to be a b*tch but I think some people want knife edge pleats in pants and no flaws in people.

Von asked Trump about his brother, Fred Trump, Jr.. Fred died an alcoholic. Von has struggled with addiction issues. This is raw, vulnerable and real:

You can tell that Mr. Trump still misses and looks up to his Big Brother Fred. Just reading the words that Trump uses feels vulnerable. From USA Today:

During the episode, Von asked Trump about not drinking and smoking, to which Trump replied that he never has, mentioning his older brother, Fred Trump Jr., who he said had a problem with alcohol.

“I tell people, no drugs, no drinking, no cigarettes,” Trump said. “I tell that to my kids all the time, I say ‘no drugs, no drinking, no smoking.'”
Trump said he looked up to and admired his brother, who died in 1981, calling him an “incredible personality.” He added that he’s heard alcohol is “tougher to get off of than drugs,” to which Von said that he himself is in recovery from drug and alcohol use.

Theo Von is very open about his own addiction struggles and isn’t precious or pretentious with his language either. From Whiskey Riff again:

Trump then asked about the difference between the effects of cocaine and alcohol: “Is cocaine a stronger up? So you’re way up with cocaine, more than anything else you can think of?” And Theo explained it as only Theo can: “Cocaine will turn you into a damn owl, homie. You know what I’m saying? You’ll be out on your own porch. You’ll be your own street lamp.” So much to unpack there, but can we just talk about Theo calling Trump “homie?” (Throughout most of the interview he called him “Donald” like he was chatting with an old friend and not a former president/one of the most famous people on the planet).

Theo Von called Trump “Homie”. Andrea Mitchell would pass out. Watch:

We don’t need more self-important, pretentious journalists. We need more real conversations without people trying to play gotcha. This shows the realness of both men, just as the conversation with Elon Musk did. What the media has shown you has always been a cardboard cut Trump. This is 14k solid gold.
