The Fani Fail: Willis Disqualified From Trump Case In Georgia

It was a bad day for Fani Willis. All her dreams of “getting” Donald Trump have officially and finally come to an end.

And the only person Fani Willis can blame is herself. The debate regarding the validity of the Georgia RICO case may be discussed in legal circles from now until the end of time, but it will be a truth universally acknowledged that Fani Willis screwed her own case. After the bombshells that Willis was in a relationship with the lawyer she had hired to prosecute the Trump RICO case, Nathan Wade, and was taking vacations with him – allegedly on the public dime – everyone knew that the legal case was in deep trouble. It was all about the appearance of impropriety, and Fani Willis and Nathan Wade had that in spades.

Not that the accusations and evidence stopped Fani Willis. She had every excuse under the sun. She used the race card. She blamed Nathan Wade’s ex-wife for bringing this up in their divorce proceedings. She took the stand on her own behalf and proceeded to demonstrate how little she thought of everyone around her. Once the initial ruling came down that either Willis or Wade had to be removed from the case, Wade resigned and Fani Willis was going to continue onward.

Except the defense appealed the decision, demanding that Fani Willis also be removed from the case. That case went before the Georgia Court of Appeals, which delayed ruling until after the election – which was a huge legal win for Donald Trump. The Georgia Court of Appeals ruled last December that Fani Willis had to be removed from the case. She promptly appealed to the Georgia Supreme Court.

The Georgia Supreme Court announced yesterday that they were declining to hear her appeal, so the ruling from the Court of Appeals will stand. Fani Willis is officially done with this case.

The Georgia Court of Appeals in December ruled that Willis and her office could not continue to prosecute the case, citing an “appearance of impropriety” stemming from her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

Willis appealed to the Georgia Supreme Court in January, but on Tuesday the high court declined in a 4-3 decision to take up the case. One judge didn’t participate and another was disqualified.

Now, removing Fani Willis from this case does not mean that the case goes away. The state just has to find another prosecutor to take it.

Willis said she disagreed with the decision but would make the case file and evidence available to the Prosecuting Attorneys Council for use in the litigation.

“While I disagree with the decision of the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court’s divided decision not to review it, I respect the legal process and the courts,” Willis said, per Fox Atlanta.

The council’s executive director, Pete Skandalakis, said Tuesday he will begin searching for a new prosecutor to replace Willis but didn’t know how long that might take. He said once a new prosecutor is appointed it will be “up to him or her what to do with the case.”

That person could continue on the track Willis had taken, pursue only some charges, or dismiss the case altogether. Finding a prosecutor willing to handle it could be difficult, given its complexity and the resources required.

Even if a new prosecutor tries to follow Willis’ path, it seems unlikely Trump could be prosecuted now that he is the sitting president. But 14 other defendants still face charges.

Professor Jonathan Turley believes that a new prosecutor should just get rid of the case altogether, stating that a RICO case was an overreach to begin with.

Other legal professionals agree. No one is going to want to start this case over.

And as for President Trump… he is reveling in the moment, as only he (and his meme team) can.

Hopefully, this is the very last that America at large has to hear about Fani Willis. As for Fulton County – you guys reelected her, you’re stuck with her. Enjoy.
