Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Resigns. Meh.

Even though the spawn of Reverend Jesse Jackson had very public legal problems with an ongoing federal investigation, and clear mental health issues – he’s bipolar – the folks in Jesse Jackson Jr’s Chicago district didn’t really care. He’s been out of sight since June but two weeks ago he won his re-election bid with a whopping 63% of the vote. Here’s an excerpt of his resignation speech:

“For seventeen years I have given 100 percent of my time, energy and life to public service,”

(…)

“However, over the past several months, as my health has deteriorated, my ability to serve the constituents of my district has continued to diminish. Against the recommendations of my doctors, I had hoped and tried to return to Washington and continue working on the issues that matter most to the people of the Second District. I know now that will not be possible.”

Meh. It’s hardly newsworthy anymore to hear of a dirty Chicago politician who is a nutcase. Doug Powers blogging at Michelle Malkin has a really good rundown of Jr’s issues he’s facing which include the possibility of jail time. There will be a special election to replace Jesse Jackson, Jr. in Congress and if Debbie Wasserman Schultz has anything to say about it, his replacement will be “majority minority and female.”
