Remembering Our Warriors At Rest – Memorial Day

Monday, May 31st we will commemorate Memorial Day. We will remember and honor those who fell in service to the idea of a more perfect nation. We will think on those young men and women who were not afforded the opportunity to grow old. We will watch the faces of those young old men and women do who remember them. We will look at the small American flags in front of the grave markers. We will eat a burger and a hot dog and we will raise a glass to the warriors who fought and died.

Mat Best dropped a new song and video early this morning celebrating the warriors who we honor this weekend. Mat Best? Mat is a former Ranger and government contractor who wrote an honest and howlingly funny memoir, “Thank you for my service”. I highly recommend you buy and read his book. I reviewed the book for Victory Girls and you can read the review here. Best had a lot of downtime while he was contracting and started writing and uploading funny videos, like this one here.

If you enjoy Black Rifle Coffee, then you probably have heard of Best. The Black Rifle Coffee Company folks make lots of videos. Some are funny, like this one. Some are motivational and address veterans issues like this one. Other videos tell the story of their friends like this one about Omar “Crispy” Avila, who lost his leg below the knee and was seriously burned.

Mat Best, Evan Hafer, Jarred Taylor and Crispy never forget the warriors they served with who didn’t come home. This Memorial Day they released an awesome rock ballad to honor the fallen. The video begins with a card that reads:

“It has made all the difference for me…losing so many friends over the years it became a matter of self survival to shift my thoughts from grieving to actually celebrating and being grateful for ever having shared the company of such men.”

Clint T.

The video:

The lyrics by Mat and Jarred are:

When we lay our warriors to rest
Here’s to the good times, here’s to the bad times
And the memories we’ll always have, ’cause
When we lay our warriors to rest
Raise your glasses, cheers to the fallen
And the ones who we’ll never forget

Oh, you fought your last fight
We’ll take the tours from here
Tonight we’ll celebrate your life
As we hold up our beers
We’ll tell tales of the past
And the hell that we raised
Your memory will last
Until we meet again

To the fist fights, to the late nights, to the waking up drunk
To the war scars and stupid tattoos
For all the laughs and photographs that’ll never see the day
My friend, this one’s for you

When we lay our warriors to rest
Here’s to the good times, here’s to the bad times
And the memories we’ll always have, ’cause
When we lay our warriors to rest
Raise your glasses, cheers to the fallen
And he ones who we’ll never forget
Never forget
We’ll never forget

This Memorial Day let’s remember our fallen warriors and their sacrifice. As the Progressives try to regress our nation and tear us apart, we remember that every drop of blood spilled was red.
