On Saturday, November 2, 2019, Nancy Pelosi sent a “Dear Colleague” letter to her fellow Democrat Representatives. Her letter, which was also released to the media, can be read in full here. Although Speaker Pelosi gives lip service to the impeachment inquiry process, her letter makes it clear that President Donald Trump is guilty of….being President.
The Washington Times has an article titled “Pelosi says Democrats poised to impeach Trump: ‘The facts are clear'”. What facts are these?
The letter spelled out what she said the evidence would show: that Mr. Trump withheld U.S. military aid from Ukraine to force Kyiv to investigate alleged corruption in the country involving former Vice President Joseph R. Biden, a political rival.
“Ukraine desperately needed this assistance. At least 11,000 Ukrainians have already died in the fight against Russia’s incursions into their country,” she wrote. “The President’s actions undermined national security, jeopardized the integrity of our elections and violated his oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.”
That’s a horrible, large number. The Ukraine claims about 4,000 have died. The United Nations claims up to 13,000. The current Ukrainian crisis began in 2014, before Donald Trump was President. Barack Obama was President and refused to sell Javelin missiles to the Ukraine. From the New York Post last month:
Team Obama feared that lethal aid would provoke Moscow.
So what did the administration give him? Instead of rocket-propelled grenades, we provided food rations. As one frustrated former Pentagon official put it at the time, “What kind of message does that send anyway?”
Further in the Pelosi letter, she makes the claim that Trump is worse than Nixon:
President Nixon resigned office because of the break-in of the DNC Headquarters for his political gain and the cover-up. Some observers of that sad time of our history say that President Nixon’s offenses pale in comparison to what President Trump has done.
Pelosi offers no proof or evidence or even the names of “some observers”. I can say that “some observers” have said that Nancy Pelosi is a devil’s spawn, partisan hack. If I offer no proof or evidence or names of the observers that means that I have nothing.
Nancy Pelosi sat for an interview with Bloomberg Politics on Friday:
Pelosi can quote Founding Fathers, wrap herself in The Constitution and claim this is not about Trump’s personality, but we all can see that this was the Democrats goal since November, 2016, at least.
President Donald Trump is not above the law. At the same time, he is a citizen of the United States with the full protections of The Constitution. Claiming that he is worse than Nixon. Claiming that he is already guilty. Claiming that Democrats are continuing to legislate during this “sad time” is a load of whale excrement.
President Nixon resigned and I am still not sure that that was the correct thing to do. President Trump must fight. He must fight to preserve our Republic.

How does withholding military aid from a country halfway around the world undermine OUR national security? It might undermine Ukraine’s security, but not ours. And how does it jeopardize the integrity of our elections to investigate people who might have interfered in the last one?! And, how on earth does this go against his Constitutional oath? This woman thinks you’re dumber than a box of rocks. (Though, given that her constituents keep electing her, I can see how she might think that.)

WTH word salad is that? Is there no one in this woman’s office who can write clearly?
Some observers of that sad time of our history say that President Nixon’s offenses pale in comparison to what President Trump has done.
Some observers of that time also think space aliens are coming to take them off of this planet. Some other observers of that time think wearing a live flamingo for a hat is a subdued fashion statement. Them being “observers of that sad time” gives them absolutely no moral or ethical authority whatsoever.
Or, do we really want to play this game, since I’m an observer of the sad time that was Communist East Germany and the Soviet Union and I think people like the entire political class – but particularly the Democratic Party – is full of communists who are as bad as anyone in those countries during that time. Do I get to throw them all out now? Is that how this works?
The brazen lies are what convince me we’re over the brink. These people think they can simply say whatever they desire – no matter how untrue or ridiculous – and the people will mindlessly follow them. The fact they’re still in office is testimony to the fact they’re right.

SDN says: Shorter Pelosi: An elected official can escape prosecution for any crime as long as it’s a candidate for President.
Pelosi will never admit that by this standard Obama should have been impeached for authorizing the investigation of candidate Trump. Pelosi will also never admit that President Trump was authorized to seek Ukrainian cooperation by ratified treaty, and REQUIRED to seek Ukrainian cooperation as part of fulfilling his oath of office that the laws (in this case, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act) will be faithfully executed.
Pelosi is an enemy domestic.
GWB says: Heck, by the standard they’re using, 0bama should have been impeached for the “I’ll have more flexibility” statement. Or even for smoking choom in college.

Catsgranny says: I’ll keep it simple -there would not be so much talk of impeachment or all the other “shocking” things said about President Trump if they were not so frightened he will be re-elected. They would be negative but they would just wait it out. However, their fear is palpable and I love it. So much desperation. There is a gas station I frequent whose electronic sign for the last few week runs this message in 3 parts because it doesn’t all fit at one time:
1. “THANK U NANCY PELOSI FOR”
2. ” HELPING RE-ELECT DONALD TRUMP”
3. “TRUMP 2020 K.A.G.!”
