10,000. No, not dollars. That is the number of immigrants President Obama is concerned with. Its the number of refugees we’ve been told will be coming to America in 2016.

The United States is making plans to accept 10,000 Syrian refugees in the coming budget year, a significant increase from the 1,500 migrants that have been cleared to resettle in the U.S. since civil war broke out in the Middle Eastern country more than four years ago, the White House said Thursday.

This is a move by the White House to aid Europe and Syria itself with the refugee problem. There’s just one…actually quite a few catches with this. First of all, the 10,000 refugees in question are ones who are ALREADY in the pipeline waiting for admittance to the United States. Secondly, its been reported that Putin has sent troops to prop up Assad.. NOT the refugees, Assad himself.

Given that information, the question is, how does that help the actual crisis and how many refugees are truly seeking asylum? Remember, this is the same Syria that our current President drew Gumby-like red lines in the sand against…and each time folded like a cheap suit when faced with sneering opposition from Assad and Putin. As Instapundit’s Glenn Reynolds points out:

The signal to our enemies: It’s safe to ignore us. The signal to our friends: It’s foolish to rely on us.

Too true. Obama golfs and Assad parties while his own country implodes and its citizens suffer. His genocide has led to a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions in Europe.

When I say epic proportions, I mean it. Germany, Hungary, Austria and other EU countries are being flooded with refugees right now. 800,000 of them at last count. Given those numbers, its understandable that the EU countries are struggling with how to handle this crisis. German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s remarks after visiting children at a refugee school emphasize the gravity of the issue:

All of those countries are being taxed to the limit to provide for the refugees. The question is, how many of those 800,000+ refugees are legitimate and how many of them are sliding under the radar because they are using the guise of refugee status to sneak in and navigate the world for reasons of terrorism? It’s a very valid question. How do we know who is legitimate or not? That’s a question that has been asked of the FBI. Their answer?

Reluctant??!! I’d be MUCH more than reluctant. I’d put a stop on all visas until each potential refugee has been vetted six ways to Sunday, and then vetted again. Or not…

Look, I understand much pressure our law enforcement agencies are under. I work with agencies from the federal to the local level. Quite frankly, all of the fed agencies are undermanned, their budgets slashed or non-existent, and receive little to zero support or direction from the powers that be. And they are constantly scrambling to fulfill their duties amid short-sighted politics at all levels. Meanwhile the White House is barreling ahead with their latest and greatest idea.

Earnest said earlier this week that the administration has been looking at a “range of approaches” for assisting U.S. allies with 340,000 people freshly arrived from the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Many are fleeing parts of Iraq that are under the Islamic State group’s control. The 1,500 Syrians who are resettling in the U.S. represent a small percentage of the 11.6 million people who have been chased out of the country or uprooted from their homes due to the civil war in Syria.

Believe me, I feel for the refugees that are fleeing the horrors that have been inflicted upon them by Assad, Al-Quaeda, ISIS, and other terrorist groups. I know that each legitimate refugee wants nothing more than peace and a chance at a LIFE without war, strife, and terror.  Yet I can’t help but think that 2016 Presidential candidate Carly Fiorina’s warning via our friends at Legal Insurrection should be heeded by all:

As I write this, Americans around the world are honoring and remembering the lives cut short by terrorists on September 11, 2001. We know now those terrorists used multiple methods to gain access to our country in an effort to wreak havoc and pain on us all. We are, from the time of the Pilgrims to today, a country that has always welcomed those who are “yearning to breathe free.”

But today, can we afford to throw our doors wide open and let every person in without question? I wish we could. The reality is, we can’t. Today is a reminder that as much as we Americans want to open our hearts to all without question; the fact remains, we need to and must be as vigilant in protecting our homeland as we are in welcoming those who truly yearn to breathe free.
