With a flourish of his famed pen, Obama decreed on Friday that transgender students can use the bathroom or locker room of their choice in public schools. Up to this point I have been watching the battle of the potty police with some humor, but with this move I have to put my foot down and say to those parents who do not have the luxury of paying for a private school for their children, vote with your feet.

I understand the challenges facing modern parents. Believe me, I get it. I live in a state that has a 63% graduation rate from High Schools. Pathetic to say the least. I would rather stick a needle in my own eye than allow my son to set foot in one of the overcrowded, underfunded schools here. However, I also understand that not all families have the luxury of being able to sacrifice one parents income for homeschooling either. This is a major reason I have been calling for school choice for years now.

I have always been deeply sympathetic to those who feel that they truly were not born in the correct body. I could not imagine waking up one day with a penis. I would lose my mind, utterly. But in recent months, since the potty police have become a thing, I have been reading up on transgenders. It seems that even the man who pioneered gender reassignment surgery has determined via his own research that many transgenders are no happier post transition. A Swedish study released in 2003 found that transgenders are more likely to end their lives via suicide than their counterparts.

The American College of Pediatrics came out earlier this year with a statement that parents bowing to pressure from their children to switch genders is a form of medical child abuse by stating that the current craze of “Gender Ideology” harms children.

“The American College of Pediatricians urges educators and legislators to reject all policies that condition children to accept as normal a life of chemical and surgical impersonation of the opposite sex,” the statement issued on Feb. 2 stated. “Facts – not ideology – determine reality.”

Why would these doctors say that? Well it seems that their concerns are founded in something liberals love to cite-science.

“The first point is, “Human sexuality is an objective biological binary trait: ‘XY’ and ‘XX’ are genetic markers of health – not genetic markers of a disorder,” with the purpose of male and female being “the reproduction and flourishing of our species.” It notes “exceedingly rare exceptions of sexual differentiation,” which are disorders but do not represent a “third sex.”

In fact there have been serious problems that have led at least one University north of us to ditch their “inclusive” bathroom policy because boys were taking videos of girls in the shower with their cell phones. I could have told you that wasn’t going to end well.

So now, Dear Leader tells American public schools who are hooked on Federal money like it was crack that they risk angering their financial masters if they do not cow tow to this latest demand. I see a couple issues here though. For someone who was supposed to be a Constitutional expert-I think that this would violate the freedom of association promised in that document. In the First Amendment it promises the freedom of speech and of association.

More importantly however, I wonder as a survivor of childhood abuse, where is my right to feel safe in the bathroom? Do I think transgender people are going to rape women in the ladies room? No. I doubt that since most transgenders are straight, and therefore into the opposite gender. I do think though that there are going to be men who will use the law to go into ladies rooms to attack women. Earlier this year Seattle, WA enacted a gender identity law about bathrooms. Sure enough, a man went into a ladies  locker room because he had a “right to be here“. He did not “identify” as a woman, but he entered the locker room nonetheless.

If you have the ability to remove your child from your local public school, I encourage you to do so. I also encourage you to fight for school choice in your state. This insanity has to stop somewhere and until parents vote with their feet, I do not see it getting any better.
