A Minnesota woman named Anmarie Calgaro is suing several Minnesota state agencies for parental rights concerning her seventeen year old transgender son, as reported by the Washington Times. This case raises so many points that it is difficult to know where to begin. I admit that I am cisgendered. That’s a start.
Anmarie Calgaro is suing the Minnesota agencies, not because she disagrees with her son, but because her child is being given powerful drugs by the State of Minnesota. She has not consented and cannot see the medical reports.
Here is the backstory briefly. Anmarie Calgaro gave birth to her son when she was a teenager and unmarried. The child, known as J.D.K. in court papers, went to a Minnesota Legal Aid office. With the help of Legal Aid, J.D.K. wrote a self-emancipation letter alleging that his mother did not wish to have anything to do with him and had not reported him missing for over six months. Minnesota courts rejected this self-emancipation letter when the J.D.K. applied for a legal name change.
The Twin Cities Pioneer Press article reports:
Calgaro, of Iron Junction, said that Park Nicollet Health Services, Fairview Health Services and the St. Louis County School District will not let her see her child’s records. She said that state Medical Assistance funds are helping the teen live in an apartment independently and paying for medicine, including powerful narcotics and hormone drugs to help with the sex change.
Well, if Miss Calgaro didn’t want to see her child because he is transgender or did not report him as a runaway, maybe a legitimate case could be made for the Department of Children and Family Services to step in. But, by what rights can a child declare himself emancipated and then the state blocks the mother from participating in the child’s medical decisions. What? No therapy. I thought family therapy was always good.
Of course the Twitterverse has already pronounced the mother guilty of hatred.
Aww, don’t you just love the tolerance and acceptance of the terminally aggrieved? Here is more from NBC OUT. The mother is represented by Thomas More Society lawyers (anti-abortion). They are faith based so they are evil.
While the Thomas More Society’s press release refers to a “life-changing operation” undergone by the teen, the vast majority of transgender people don’t have surgery until after age 18—if they have surgery at all.
“Surgery is highly unlikely before 18,” said Jamison Green, a former president of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), the standard bearer for transgender health care policy.
Green noted that the teen in question has likely only been on hormone therapy for a year or less. And, he said, “In most cases, it’s best to be on hormones for at least a year before surgery.”
J.D.K. will be eighteen years old in July, 2017. At that point, he can have the life-altering surgery. Shouldn’t the mother be involved in therapy with her child before that time.
This is about the State versus the parent. The powerful versus the powerless. The agenda of the left versus cold hard facts. Make no mistake. Transgender, non-gender conforming, ungendered pronouns. This is all of a piece. Gender has no meaning. Family has no meaning. The State will provide you with powerful drugs to make you feel like you are who you want to be.
Welcome to the Brave New World.
Family has no meaning.
This is the most important part. For the progressive, family is a hindrance to their continuing evolution of humanity into some bland, generic – yet glorious! – mao suited higher existence.
You are right to note Brave New World. For them it’s an instruction manual, not a warning.
Now, take your soma and everything will be all right.
That’s exactly what I was thinking, GWB. Soma for everyone.
Oh what a tangled web we weave…
Xactly.
