Let’s face it, the main stream media long ago proved it was more interested in creating the news than in reporting it. In all too many cases, it has become the unofficial mouthpiece of the Democratic Party, a willing partner in the party’s attempts to drive President Trump from office. Yesterday, two examples of how the media acts in lockstep with the Dems came to light and they both revolve around the issue of illegal immigration.
The first case comes out of Portland, Oregon. It shouldn’t surprise any of us that the story begins with the arrest of a man for “felony and misdemeanor charges in the July traffic-related death of a local woman.” After the perp, one Alejandro Maldonado-Hernandez, was taken into custody, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) asked the Washington County Sheriff’s Department to hold him until they could take him into federal custody. This being the People’s Republic of Oregon, you can guess what happened next. Not only did they not hold him for the ICE agents, they released him. Apparently, the SD didn’t think he presented a danger to anyone. Oh, and they trusted him to show up for court.
I’ll give you three guesses about what happened next and the first two don’t count.
Washington Sheriff’s Office announced in September it had learned “Maldonado-Hernandez fled to Mexico to avoid prosecution, with the assistance of three people.” The three involved were arrested in August for hindering his prosecution. ICE has since issued a wanted flyer for Maldonado-Hernandez and believes he is in Mexico.
Welcome to a sanctuary city where it is more important to spit in the face of immigration laws than it is to protect the public and see justice is done for those who are victims of crimes.
Here’s what ICE had to say about what happened:
On July 16, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers encountered Maldonado-Hernandez while he was being held at the Washington County jail and lodged an immigration detainer.
On August 8, the jail failed to honor the detainer and released Maldonado-Hernandez back into the community he had previously victimized. . . When law enforcement agencies fail to honor immigration detainers and release a criminal alien onto the streets, it negatively impacts public safety.
And this is where the media comes in. How many of you heard about this story last night? Where was it on the national news programs? Where was it on the homepages for the major media outlets? I’ll tell you where. It was absent. Why? Because it didn’t fit the narrative the MSM and the Democratic Party has chosen to push.
Remember, it is the Democratic Party that has pushed for the creation of sanctuary cities. Cities where law enforcement officials are told to ignore the law and not cooperate with federal officials. Cities that still want to reap the benefits of federal money and will fight to keep getting our tax dollars.
But that isn’t the only bit of idiocy we saw yesterday from the media when it comes to U.S. immigration policy. Day before yesterday, a number of major media outlets ran full tilt with a story about the more than 100,000 children “in immigration-related custody, which violates international law.” Think about that. More than 100,000 kids being held in government facilities, all faced with some sort of immigration charge. It’s the thing the liberals have been chanting and channeling for the last two years.
Then, suddenly, the story was gone. It seems that yesterday the U.N. clarified the numbers. That 100,000 figure wasn’t representative of the number of children currently in federal custody. Oh no. It wasn’t even the figure for the number of those held last year. That number goes back to 2015.
Oops.
Can you imagine the mad scramble as editors realized they’d not only been found out for not making their reporters do their due diligence but that the number came DURING THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION?
That sound you hear is me laughing hysterically. It serves them right. Saint Obama and his administration held more children in federal custody than the evil Orange Man.
As the Washington Examiner noted:
[T]he number of minors detained in the United States is more like 6,500: 1,500 detained by the Department of Homeland Security and 5,000 detained by the Department of Health and Human Services. . . That “100,000” figure should have never made it past the editing process, let alone launch a handful of headlines declaring the U.S. the leader in detained children. That figure requires not just shoddy math but also a total suspension of disbelief regarding what goes on in the darker, more tyrannical corners of the world.”
But none of that mattered to the MSM. They saw a story that fit their narrative and ran with it. Why? Because it made Trump, and the U.S., look bad.
And then the media wonders why more and more Americans are looking for alternative sources for their news.
Yet again, we heard crickets from the media. Where were the public apologies for misreporting the so-called facts? Where are the consequences for the reporters and editors who let this story see the light of day?
This is the sort of “correction” we got. A tweet. A frigging tweet.
AFP is withdrawing this story.
The author of the report has clarified that his figures do not represent the number of children currently in migration-related US detention, but the total number of children in migration-related US detention in 2015.
We will delete the story. https://t.co/p30UjEWl7u

Mind you, that didn’t stop Bernie Sanders from retweeting the original link. The caption? “Under Trump, America leads the world in locking up little kids—including 100,000 children at the border. This is immoral.”
I guess he showed us. He’ll keep pushing the narrative. It doesn’t matter that the data has been proven to not only be several years old but have nothing to do with the Trump Administration and its immigration policy.
What’s of even more interest? Now that the link in the tweet goes to a disclaimer saying the story has been taken down, Bernie’s tweet seems to have disappeared. At least I couldn’t find it last night when I went looking for it. But, as with most of the MSM, there’s nothing from the senator apologizing for pushing false information on the American public. Just crickets.
It is time to let the media know we don’t want a political propaganda arm telling us what the news is. They aren’t reporting. They aren’t editorializing. They are making up the news in order to shape the path this country goes down. That is not what is needed and it is not what most of us want. It is past time for the media to learn, through the loss of subscriptions and the loss of advertising dollars, that we have had enough.
The press enjoys the protections of the First Amendment but so do we. They can print or broadcast their propaganda and we can call them on it at every turn. Do not let their voices be the only ones heard on the wind. Let our voices be heard, long and loud and proud, as we stand up for this country and all she stands for.
