Mayorkas: Okay We’re Gonna Build a Wall at the Border

Did hell freeze over or something? Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas finally admitted the country needs a wall at the southern border. So on Wednesday he waived not one, not two, but 26 federal regulations to allow construction of a border wall in Texas.

Citing the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, Mayorkas added:

There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas.

Ya think?

As a result, this new construction will add an additional 20 miles to an existing border wall in Starr County, TX. That’s an area where an unusually “high illegal entry” has been occurring. In fact, Customs and Border Patrol sources claimed that in September alone, CBP experienced over 260,000 migrant encounters.

What’s also interesting is that Mayorkas and the DHS are waiving environmental laws which hampered wall construction. These include the Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and Endangered Species Act. Environmentalism took a back seat to the immigration crisis.

What the Biden Administration Had Claimed

Remember during the 2020 election when Joe Biden promised that “There will not be another foot of wall constructed in my administration”? Or when upon assuming the presidency in 2021, Biden boasted that “Building a massive wall that spans the entire southern border is not a serious policy solution”?

Right.

Or how Alejandro Mayorkas repeatedly claimed that “the border is secure”?

Well, well, well, how things have changed.

Dem Mayors and Governors Tell Mayorkas and Biden No Más

The Democrat mayors and governors of cities and states experiencing a massive influx of migrants no doubt influenced the Biden administration.

For example, on Tuesday New York City mayor Eric Adams asked a judge to suspend the city’s “right to shelter” status. Adams said in a statement:

With more than 122,700 asylum seekers having come through our intake system since the spring of 2022, and projected costs of over $12 billion for three years, it is abundantly clear that the status quo cannot continue.

Moreover, Adams also announced that he will be taking a four-day trip to Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador to try to sway migrants from coming to NYC.

We’re going to tell them that coming to New York doesn’t mean you’re going to stay in a 5-star hotel …

We’re going to tell them what the real conditions are, the large number of thousands of people are living in congregate settings. We know that there’s a propaganda machine that basically – it has given the false promise of what life is like of being a migrant and asylum seeker, and we want to be honest with those who live in these regions.

But Adams still wants the borders to remain open since it’s the “official position of this city.” Apparently he thinks he can sweet-talk them into staying in their own countries.

Fat chance of that.

However, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul does want a limit on migrants crossing the border:

Well, we want them to have a limit on who can come across the border. It is too open right now. People coming from all over the world are finding their way through simply saying they need asylum.

And on Monday, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker wrote a letter to Biden asking for more help from the administration. Over 15,000 migrants have arrived since the first bus of migrants reached the state 13 months ago.

No más!

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson: Imma Go to the Border

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson will also be taking a migrant-related trip: he’s planning to visit the actual border. Which is more than you can say for President Biden or his sidekick Veep Kamala Harris, the “border czar.”

In a Wednesday press conference, Johnson didn’t say when he was going, but it would be “soon.”

I am going to the border as soon as possible. But I gotta coordinate that with running the government and making sure that my wife and children are secure as well.

That’s fair.

He also wants Black Chicagoans to know that he’s got their back. And it’s true that poor Black residents are bearing the brunt of this mess.

I’m doing my part to continue to make sure that Chicagoans who have been in this city, who have needed support and particularly our Black families — I know there’s been a tremendous burden particularly on Black Chicago. I am fully aware of that.

But Brandon Johnson is still a True Believer that illegal migrants aren’t illegal. He also claims they’re protected by international law.

Going to the border is to make sure that everybody knows that my administration is committed to making sure that we are putting together the full force of government at every single level to ensure that these families, who, by the way, they’re not illegal. They’re asylum-seekers. They are protected by international law.

Sigh. You can lead a horse to water, etc., etc.

As I’ve written before, Brandon Johnson, former school teacher and teachers’ union organizer, is in way over his head when it comes to governing the shitshow that is Chicago.

Why Biden and Mayorkas Flipped on the Wall

Neither Biden nor Mayorkas have really changed their thinking on illegal migrants. They’re just seeing the handwriting on the wall: that the 2024 elections will happen in 13 months.

According to Real Clear Politics, Biden has a mere 33.6% approval rating on his handling of the border. Meanwhile, 62.8% disapprove of his handling of the issue.

The  House Republicans may be in the midst of their own three-ring circus after the ouster of Speaker Kevin McCarthy. But that problem will be fixed in short order. Meanwhile, illegal migrants keep flooding over the border into blue states and cities where they weren’t invited. It’s a bad look for the Democrats heading into 2024, and Joe Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas know that if they don’t even try to secure the border it won’t bode well for them.

Mayorkas’ decision will be challenged in Federal Court by Dems, open borders advocate, watermelons and other leftists. Nothing will be built.

  • Bruce says:

A “wall’ without constant oversight is not much of a barrier, especially if it has “open” ends.

About as effective as laying a dense minefield and walking away; all that will happen ids that the enemy will steadily “lift ” your mines, creating paths through in the process, and your own troops will start getting blown up on their own “repurposed” mines. .

I guess that there is nobody appropriately serious in all of DC who will admit that the influx of illegal aliens needs to be stemmed MUCH further back in the chain.

    As Lenin quipped:

“The worse; the better.”, or words to that effect.

  • Cameron says:

    They are not migrants.
    They are not asylum seekers.
They are invaders and until they are treated as such, the problem is not going to get solved.

  • John Holton says:

26 Federal regulations had to be waived to build the wall? How many were added since Biden took office? 26?

Amazing how much can get done when there’s an election looming…

  • therealguyfaux says:

The wall was horrible and “xenophobic” when Trump was building it. What changed?

    “Shut up,” they explained… (*EYEROLL*)

  • Lloyd says:

This proves that Mayorkas and Biden have been lying all along…Out border has not been safe; it has been wide open with all sorts of illegals passing freely. The damage done by Biden’s open border cannot be undone!

  • GWB says:

First, my first thought on reading about the waivers was “Did he specify which side of Texas’ border that wall was going to be on?” (Remember Biden suggesting all those illegals stay in Texas?)

Second, you mention Biden’s statement about “There will not be another foot of wall constructed in my administration”. Well, even with the waivers, given the turnover in administrations is in January 2025, and how long it takes to let contracts, then to actually do anything on the contract, he might still be right!

Third, as others have mentioned, if they don’t stem the tide a lot further back and get serious about tossing those already arrived, these few miles won’t do much.

Fourth, should Mayorkas maybe stop ordering his personnel to stop OPENING the barriers that others have put up? Like barbed wire and spinny floats?

Even with this move, they still need to all be removed from office in as painful a manner as possible.

  • Ming O'Mongo says:

IMO, the underlying goal is to encourage maximum effort to border jump BEFORE an inch of wall is built. Once that is in process, wall building becomes moot for more reasons than contracting delays.

  • gregory brou says:

This was not a snap decision made in the last couple days. Go back 8 weeks and the news was full of stories about auctioning off 260 million dollars of steel beams that were surplused after Biden refused to install any additional wall 2 1/2 years ago. The auction fire sale probably recovered 10 cent on the dollar. The new owners will not have moved the beams and will net 240 million dollars for an 8 week investment when they sell the stuff back to Myorkus. The 24 federal regulations he will be waving will have allowances for no bid contracts, product quality etc.

The rate of return on this scam will greatly exceed the Clinton foundation, hunter Biden and Menedez efforts

    Hopefully Gaetz will investigate

    • Scott says:

Good point.. a little investigation as to political connections of those who bought the wall materials could be quite interesting..

  • Ann in LA says:

No, he’ll didn’t freeze over. The Dems support a wall. The Dems have always supported the wall. The Dems have been tireless, trying to build the wall. It’s just the evil ultra MAGAs have been stopping them from doing right.

    • Cameron says:

That’s as adorable as “they switched sides.”

      • Scott says:

Here’s to Abbot and DeSantis for making dem mayors / governors whine loud enough that Dementia Joe (well, his handlers) had to listen.. Funny how it didn’t matter when red state folks said how bad things were.. only when lefties started hurting did it matter… “President for all” my ass..

  • […] only will the wall be built as Kim told us yesterday, now Biden will now deport illegal immigrants back […]

  • Joe R. says:

    BOLD FACED HUGE MONEY GRAB.

Sell the border wall parts already purchased for $2M

Buy it Back for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Billiions

    10% to the big guy.

    This will not be forgotten,

  • Larry Brasfield says:

This wall building is a ploy akin to John F. Kerry’s boast that “[he] actually did vote for the $87 billion before [he] voted against it.” The Dims will never enforce immigration law or allow the wall to be become effective. They regard their followers as gullible, naive, and easily manipulated with deceit — in a word, “dim”.
