Hillary Clinton had a little help from her Hollywood gal pals when she appeared at a fundraiser in Culver City California yesterday. Her team of Hollywood cheerleaders included such notable names as Sally (“You like me! You REALLY like me!“) Fields and friend of 20 years Mary Steenbergen as well as a few younger faces such as Elizabeth Banks (played Effie Trinket in the Hunger Games trilogy) and Jamie King (evidently of some TV fame). According to Ms. King who was the second in line to introduce Mrs. Clinton, Hillary “Crushed it!” in her foreign policy speech on Thursday “Because she believes in a strong and confident America, and so do I.” Ms. King’s introduction might have had a bit more gravitas had she not followed it up with “RIGHT?”. This is a Presidential primary my dear, not voting for Senior class president at Hollywood or Beverly Hills High.
The insipidness continued with Hollywood talking about things that none of them have any clue about firsthand. Things like student debt, not having jobs and not being paid equally because they are women (or something). Seriously, ladies, I would love to sell just one of your Louboutins. Not even one PAIR of them, just one. I mean that alone would feed my family for a week or more. When is the last time one of these women shopped at a supermarket other than a Whole Foods or Zabars where an average of eight items will run you $80?
If we were to review the speech Ms. King was gushing over it wouldn’t be much better than my take on her introduction. While I am, proudly, #NeverTrump rebutting Donald Trump’s ranting and insanity does not a fabulous foreign policy speech make. The speech that Hillary was rebutting took place in San Jose, CA on June 2nd and was (of course) marred by violence when anti-Trump protesters and Trump supporters went at it outside the rally. Jodi covered it in her post on Friday. Trump’s speech at that rally was more of the same. How he is doing well in the polls. How he won state after state in the primary in “landslides”.
The speech that she gave rebutting it made her look stiff and robot like, even so she made some good points. She alleges that Donald’s “thin skin” could cause him to set off a nuclear war or an economic crisis. She declared him unprepared to function on the international stage due to his recklessness and childish demeanor. The most sickening part of that speech was that I could not disagree with any of what she said. What did Hillary crush in that speech? I fear our party’s ability to win the next 30 Presidential elections of my lifetime.
As for her speech at the fundraiser, it was pretty short by comparison. However when you have the Hollywood crew in tow, that is probably by design. Her introductions stretched over an hour and the list of “presenters” included actresses, a transgender activist, and several female members of Congress representing California. Even Samantha Ronson showed up to spin some tunes, in case you are wondering Ronson used to be Lindsay Lohan’s girlfriend so I guess she checked the “L” box for the LQBTQ crowd just as the trans activist checked the “T” box.
Too bad Americans seem more concerned about checking boxes on some kind of imaginary score card than really voting in leaders these days. Never did I ever think I would see such a sad face off for POTUS than we have between Hillary and Donald. Where the hell did we go wrong?
