Hillary Speaks: We Pay The $$!

Hillary Speaks: We Pay The $$!

Want to have Hillary Rodham Clinton speak at your major fundraiser? If so, be prepared for a very hefty price tag and a lot of rules. Who has $225,000.00 laying around? Who has the time and patience to negotiate with Hillary Rodham Clinton concerning the particulars of her appearance, and spend a year doing so? Survey says! The University of Nevada Las Vegas Foundation for a speech scheduled in October of this year at the Bellagio.

Laura Myers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal writes:

Hillary Rodham Clinton likes to travel in style.
She insists on staying in the “presidential suite” of luxury hotels that she chooses anywhere in the world, including Las Vegas.
She usually requires those who pay her six-figure fees for speeches to also provide a private jet for transportation — only a $39 million, 16-passenger Gulfstream G450 or larger will do.

And she doesn’t travel alone, relying on an entourage of a couple of “travel aides,” and a couple of advance staffers who check out her speech site in the days leading up to her appearance, much like a White House trip, according to her contract and supporting documents concerning her Oct. 13 speech at a University of Nevada, Las Vegas Foundation fundraiser. The documents were obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal through the state public records law.

Pretty swanky perks for someone who has to pay taxes like the rest of us and was ‘dead broke’ when they left the White House. Oh wait, they weren’t really that broke, they were able to buy 2 homes plus she had that $8 million advance for her “Living History” book.

What difference does it make!  No one can ask that question at her events. She won’t allow press coverage, won’t allow video or audio-taping of her speech, and has rules about how and where the event will be advertised. She’ll be on stage by herself for 90 minutes, but lets not remind her that Ambassador Chris Stevens and 3 other Americans died at Benghazi while she was Secretary of State.  That would be bad form.

Her speaking fee doesn’t include the additional charges of meals and incidentals for all her staff, nor the stenographer fee of $1,250.00. Not to worry, we won’t know what she will actually say on October 13, 2014 because the transcription has to be given to Hillary, not to anyone else.

What difference does it make? Not a thing. Hillary is sure that ordinary Americans don’t see her as part of the problem. That’s because she pays ordinary income tax like the rest of us do, well except for those wealthy people who don’t. She wouldn’t name any names.

Hillary wants to speak her way. That includes choosing up to 20 guests, dictating use or non-use of the photos taken on the photo line, and final approval of all moderators or introducers. Will she choose her words more carefully this time? Who knows? Remember, no one can tape or take notes of her speech.

Hillary wants to travel in style to her speeches. Commercial flights just won’t do. Nope. It has to be private jet. Probably so no one on a commercial flight will ask her if it is really true that she had good plans to deal with Syria and was warning the President about Iraq, but that she got ignored by him.

Hillary made $5 million in speaking fees in 2013. Did she talk, during any of those speeches, about her “Reset” gaffe with the Russian Foreign Minister in 2009? Who knows. Will she artfully talk about what “dead broke” or not “truly well off” really mean? Will she explain that “dead broke” in 2000 meant a combined gross income of $416,000?  Will she give any hints as to if she really will or really won’t run for President in 2016?  Your guess is as good as mine.

Pithy reflections are what people will get. Lessons from her time as Secretary of State will be shared. Does that include lessons learned and regrets about Benghazi? Buy a ticket for $200 or a table for $20,000 and you too can find out.

Will she heed the request of the UNLV student leaders? In June they sent a letter to the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation asking that:

“In keeping with Secretary Clinton’s long-standing history of advocating for students in higher education, we as student government leaders are asking that she charitably donate part or all of the $225,000 speaking fee she is reportedly making for this fund raising speech back to the UNLV Foundation as a whole,”

The students are still waiting for a reply. But what difference does it make? All the difference in the world when its Hillary’s speeches, Hillary’s rules, and Hillary’s money.
