Florida Black History Curriculum Truths

The state of Florida established a task force in 1994 to write a new curriculum for African American/Black History. Not much happened. Then, in 2021 Governor Ron DeSantis disbanded that effort and established a Working Group to write a comprehensive curriculum. The Democrats/Progressives are yowling with anger. The curriculum doesn’t tell the right story. But, short of letting the Florida Education Association write the entire curriculum, there is nothing DeSantis could have done to make the Left happy. It was always going to be a cudgel to beat him with. That’s who they are. We are fortunate that one of the academics, Dr. William Allen, is pushing back. Fortunate, because if you listen to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, it is still 1955 in the United States.

Just for the record, slavery is evil. There are more slaves in the world today than at any time in the past. We owe it to ourselves to eradicate slavery where we find it. Black History is complex and varied, because Black people are complex and varied. Each person has his/her own story and history. That said the overall story/struggle for freedom and civil rights must be told to all students because it will uplift them.

I thought everything that could be said about the Florida Black History Curriculum and the story of Dr. William Allen had been said. Our friend Beege, at Hot Air told how the remarkable Dr. Allen ripped Kamala Harris a new one. Read it here. Dr. Allen is a Civil Rights leader, political activist and historian, but to the Left, because he is on the Right, he is an Uncle Tom. What could I add?

Then, Joe Biden signed a proclamation designating an Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument. It is the right thing to do. Till died a martyr to Civil Rights. His Mother shone a bright spotlight on the evil of the prejudice encountered by and the violence perpetrated on the African American community. However, for Joe to be a hero, he has to fight villains (of his own making). America has to be 1955 for Joe to be a Civil Rights hero.

Below are Fightin’ Joe’s remarks from today:

Below are some of his remarks from The White House:

You know, when I was preparing these remarks, I — I quite frankly — and my colleagues will understand this — I found myself trying to temper my anger as I was writing it. I’m not joking. I can’t fathom — I can’t fathom what it must have been like. It’s hard to believe. I was 12 years old, and I just — you know, I know no matter how much time has passed — how many birthdays, how many events, how many anniversaries — it’s hard to relive this. It brings it all back.

snip-

At a time when there are those who seek to ban books, bury history, we’re making it clear — crystal, crystal clear –(applause) — while darkness and denialism can hide much, they erase nothing. They can hide, but they erase nothing.

We can’t just choose to learn what we want to know. We have to learn what we should know. We should know about our country. We should know everything: the good, the bad, the truth of who we are as a nation. That’s what great nations do, and we are a great nation. That’s what they do.

For only with truth comes healing, justice, repair, and another step forward toward forming a more perfect union. We got a hell of a long way to go.

It’s still 1955 and Joe’s still a teenager. Nothing has changed. More:

I’ve said it before. It was a lesson I learned coming out of the — not like real leaders in the Civil Rights Movement — but when I came out of the Civil Rights Movement as a kid, as a public defender. And I used to — you know, I used to say — think that if you pass something that was good, ha- — you can make hate go away.

Hate never goes away. It just hides. It hides under the rocks. And given a little bit of oxygen by bad people, it comes roaring out again.

And it’s up to all of us to deal with that, up to all of us to stop it. Up to all of us. The best way to do that is with the truth. It’s used in a different context, but I think it’s apply — applies here. Silence is complicity. I will not be silent, nor will you be silent about what happened. (Applause.)

In part Joe was right, hate never goes away. There is so much hatefulness in Joe’s remarks. You listen to Dr. Allen and he uses the word “up” a lot. I listened to him talk with Megyn Kelly today:

“Impose a mantle on the entire country that accounts for slavery as the soul of America and discounts the accomplishments of America”. Amen. That’s why for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris is must always be 1955 in America. They must keep us angry and divided for their agenda to come to fruition.

It’s interesting to me how people that call themselves “progressives” stubbornly refuse to admit progress has been made in anything.

    • Joe R. says:

“Progress” is another [co-opted] buzz-word for “the workings of communism”.

And we still have “The Communist Control Act of 1954” as good law, on-the-books, we just need to amend it to have it carry the death penalty, because communism certainly does.

NOTE: There’s no corresponding “Capitalist Control Act” or “Conservative Control Act”, and you know why??????????????????????

BECAUSE WERE NOT GD communists !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Citizen Tom says:

The Democratic Party was ruined hundreds of years ago when it supported slavery and racism, and it has never stopped supporting slavery and racism.

  • Joe R. says:

KKK was created by southern DEMOCRATS after the Civil War to prevent North and South reconciliation and slaves from obtaining full emancipation.

The KKK has always been, is now, and will continue until JESUS comes back, a D E M O C R A T party institution [funded / run].

Until that’s in the curriculum, they can all stuff it.

And A F T E R it’s in the curriculum, THOSE AFFECTED ARE GOING TO HUNT DEMOCRATS FOR PELTS.
