John Fetterman has been released from Walter Reed Hospital after being treated for depression. According to the reports and Fetterman’s own Twitter feed, his depression is in remission.

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman has left Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after six weeks of inpatient treatment for clinical depression, with plans to return to the Senate when the chamber resumes session in mid-April, his office said Friday.

In a statement, Fetterman’s office said he is back home in Braddock, in western Pennsylvania, with his depression “in remission,” and gave details on his treatment — including that his depression was treated with medication and that he is wearing hearing aids for hearing loss.

He will return to work at the U.S. Senate on April 17. Meanwhile, he is happy to be home.

Honest question. If one is dealing with depression, can it go into remission?? I’ve honestly never heard of such a thing. Depression is something that needs consistent life long treatment. Is that really a thing? Quite frankly, this seems to be a very carefully chosen phrase to assuage Pennsylvania constituent concerns.

We here at Victory Girls have been bluntly honest about our concerns regarding John Fetterman. The man suffered a stroke. They hid it from everyone and then shoved him back out on the campaign trail. His interview with Dana Bash was a disaster because of the choices of his campaign, him, and likely Gisele. Yet Pennsylvania voters elected him anyway because reasons and Republicans.

And then, mere weeks into office, he checked into Walter Reed. Evidently his health issues were worse than previously known.

Fetterman, whose depression is now in remission, admitted himself to the hospital on Feb. 15. According to Dr. David Williamson, who oversaw his medical treatment at the facility, the senator exhibited signs of severe depression, including “low energy and motivation, minimal speech, poor sleep, slowed thinking, slowed movement, feelings of guilt and worthlessness.” He had no suicidal thoughts, the physician said in his discharge briefing.

The senator had stopped eating and drinking, leading to low blood pressure, Williamson said. Fetterman had been hospitalized days before checking himself into Walter Reed after feeling lightheaded at a Senate Democratic retreat.

A neuropsychiatry team treated Fetterman’s depression with medication, which resolved his symptoms over the weeks of treatment.

“Sleep was restored, he ate well and hydrated, and he evidenced better mood, brighter affect and improved motivation, self-attitude, and engagement with others,” according to Williamson.

It’s really good that he’s gotten the treatment he needs. But again, I have questions. How can depression, which in Fetterman’s case was seemingly debilitating, go into remission so quickly? In addition to the recovery issues from his stroke, what other health problems was he dealing with that led to this? Because, reading between the lines, the dude was in very bad shape. Yet we are supposed to believe he’s much better, the depression is in remission, and he’s ready to be a Senator again while STILL dealing with the physical issues stemming from his stroke?

Meanwhile, Gisele was whining about how everyone was treating HER throughout this ordeal. She had to take her whine fest to ELLE Magazine of all places.

From the moment John shared his news, vicious attacks started pouring in. John suffered a stroke during his Senate campaign, so I already knew how cruel people could be about judging someone’s health and using it as a weapon. But I’ll admit, I was surprised to find that this time the vast majority of the harassment wasn’t directed toward John—but at me.

On social media, people accused me of kidnapping the kids and running away to Canada. They promoted conspiracy theories claiming I was an ambitious, power hungry wife, secretly plotting to fill his Senate seat. It was all so wildly preposterous.

You know what was preposterous Gisele? Having your husband suffer a major stroke, hiding that fact from Pennsylvania voters, and then shoving him into office! And yes, it was incredibly bad optics that you took the kids and jaunted off to Niagara Falls mere days after your husband was admitted to the hospital. So yes, we DO question the entire situation and your role in it. No Gisele, it isn’t your fault that he initially ran for Senate, but you DO bear blame for your part in his situation now. Furthermore, no matter that you preach about empowering your daughter, one lesson that you are failing is that of admitting responsibility for your role in making the political decision to shove your husband over the finish line.

Meanwhile, CBS scored an interview with Fetterman just prior to his release from Walter Reed.

A. Fetterman doesn’t look good here. B. In the full interview later this morning will we see the monitors he’s reading off of?

John Fetterman may ‘think’ he’s ready to return to his full duties as a Senator, but I for one have serious doubts. And, if he ends up with yet another stint at Walter Reed, you can darned well bet Gisele will figure out some way to make it all about her.

People do get out of depression. Being a politician in the spotlight all of the time is about the worst environment imaginable for depression related mental illness issues though.
If he were in a military position of command, they’d have replaced him.

      True.
      I suffered from depression myself.
But I did not stop eating and drinking such that my health was impaired, I did not undergo a drug treatment regimen that caused my depression to “go into remission” in a matter of weeks. It took me years of effort to free myself.
Most importantly, I was not a stroke victim suffering from brain damage.
His condition sounds more like a mental breakdown, a psychotic-type episode requiring drugs, and his “remission” is more likely a matter of his psychosis being suppressed pharmaceutically.

I agree it is probably a mental breakdown/psychotic episode.
Not surprising considering the position and level of stress he must be under.
He should not be in a position of authority over legislative policy decisions.
Hard to believe what the population has come to accept.

    Okay (okay okay…)
    Just a little pin-prick
    There’ll be no more “ahhhhhhh!”
but you may feel a little sick

    Can you stand up?
    I do believe it’s working – good!
That’ll keep you going through the show
    C’mon it’s time to go…

    IIIIIII…
    have become
    Comfortably numb

If the senator’s depression was in remission when he checked out of Walter Reed, I can assure you that going to Braddock will restore it in no time. There are more depressing places, I’m sure; I just cannot think of one.
