What kind of hostess am I if I don’t share a few magic moments of mixology? Did you know you could infuse your own spirits with botanicals? For instance, take your best sipping tequila (a good quality reposado will do) – 750ml – add two tablespoons of crushed red peppercorns and let the bottle sit for at least a week. Strain through coffee filters and use it in this aptly named Clever Girl

3 parts infused tequila
2 parts pineapple juice
1 part lime juice
1/2 simple syrup
dash of bitters

Shake vigorously with ice, pour over a large cube of ice and add a sprig of fresh mint.
