The Duggars have allegedly pitched a new show idea to the executives at TLC where the family would counsel young victims of sexual assault.
Yes,that’s correct, the family that covered up the egregious crimes of their sexual predator son now want to counsel victims of sexual abuse.
Following the cancellation of the Duggar’s show, “19 Kids and Counting,” TLC has partnered with RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) and Darkness to Light (D2L) to make a documentary about the struggles that survivors of sexual assault face. In Breaking the Silence, the Duggar’s daughters, Jill and Jessa, will be featured with other survivors and families that have been affected by the abuse.
TLC cancelled the Duggar’s show last month after scandal broke that their oldest son, Josh, had molested four of their daughters, including Jill and Jessa, and at least one other family friend. After he confessed to his parents what he had done, they covered up the crime, and sent him away to “seek counseling”. They reported his actions to a police officer friend a year later, and since that time the friend has been thrown into prison for his own illegal actions regarding children.According to insiders, Jim Bob and Michelle have used this documentary as a way to pitch an idea of a spin-off series that would feature them attempting to counsel young survivors of sexual abuse and assault.
What exactly would that look like, I wonder? Will it feature them telling the young victims they shouldn’t have dressed inappropriately in front of their abuser? Will they tell the abuser how to seek counseling with a non-counselor? Will they pontificate about their outrageously inaccurate “Christian” beliefs that demean women?
I am not a Duggar fangirl. I never have been. I grew up in a very conservative church, but I was never told the load of manure that the Duggars have made a fortune spewing. Modesty, in recent history, has never meant what these people attempt to make it mean, and I was never told that it was my job to be a baby making machine. Children were also educated about good touch versus bad touch, and the individual in my church who molested some children wasn’t protected.
This whole fiasco with Josh, and Jim Bob and Michelle’s attempts to get back onto television, just show what many of us already knew: The Duggars don’t give a hoot about showing the world God’s love or forgiveness. They don’t care about helping innocent victims of heinous crimes that will likely haunt them the rest of their lives. They care about fame and fortune, and that is exactly why it is past time for American Christians to turn our backs on the Duggars and try to distance ourselves from them. Their behavior is not a good representation of Christianity.
The Duggars are still claiming that their son isn’t a pedophile, and that there is nothing wrong with him. His behavior, according to them, while wrong, is completely normal for a hormone-riddled teenage boy. I guess no one has ever told Jim Bob and Michelle that in most families the boys don’t lust after their sisters and try to feel them up while they sleep.
