National conventions are supposed to prop up their chosen presidential candidate, but one speech from tonight’s Republican National Convention barely mentioned nominee Donald Trump. Yet Marcus Luttrell, former Navy SEAL and the “Lone Survivor” brought the crowd to tears through an emotional speech that addressed duty and country.
He started speaking from an script, then abandoned it, saying through tears, “I’m sorry, I’m so used to speaking from the heart. When I have to read this, it goes wrong so I’m just going to go.”
He briefly touched on Trump’s national security proposals, saying, “the only way we’re going to keep America safe is to have an elite military.” After that point he never mentioned Trump again.
Touching on the current racial crisis, he called for unity, declaring that “In order for any life to matter, we all have to matter.” He also called for millennials to step up and fight for the country. “I challenge all of you to fight for this country and for each and every one of us. Look, the world, outside of our borders, is a dark place, a scary place. America is the light. And her people are the goodness that grows from that. She’ll always be worth fighting for and it was my greatest honor to fight for her every day of my adult life.”
He concluded his speech by telling to assembly that it was an “honor to fight for America.”
Here is Marcus Luttrell’s powerful speech. I was moved to tears while watching it, and I bet many of you will be too.
Marcus Luttrell started his speech by saying that he was taught “to die for any woman and to fight beside any man.” Freedom-loving Americans are glad that men like Luttrell and his fellow brothers and sisters in arms have our backs. A million thanks to the Lone Survivor.
