Jasmine Crockett thinks she has an opening to run for the Senate in 2026. She has other problems to deal with first.
It seems The Squad’s Texas member, who loves to sound as if she just rolled in off “the streets” instead of acknowledging her own private education privilege, held out on disclosing a stock portfolio. Not only is that a big no-no, both ethically and legally, but the stocks involved could be rather problematic for the progressive left Crockett.
Twenty-five undisclosed stocks in Crockett’s portfolio include her ownership of shares in Amazon, Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, General Motors, Uber, DuPont, ExxonMobil, American Airlines, AT&T, Aurora Cannabis, Ford, and “Corporate Cannabis,” and “Stocks Worldwide,” the records show. Crockett also reported in her last Texas financial disclosure owing debts of at least $110,000—none of which she divulged in her first congressional financial disclosure covering the same calendar year.
Wait, cannabis? Yes, you are reading that right. Crockett would have liked to profit off of marijuana – which is a HUGE problem as she was voting in the House to make pot a little less illegal.
The far-left firebrand’s impressive financial portfolio—according to records obtained by the Washington Free Beacon through a public records request—clashes with her image as an eco-warrior and beacon of progressivism. Further, Crockett, a self-described civil rights attorney, was an active stakeholder in the cannabis business—seeking unsuccessfully to open marijuana dispensaries in Ohio—even as she represented, as a defense lawyer, a man accused of murdering someone in a marijuana deal gone bad. Both in the Texas statehouse and in Congress, Crockett has pushed bills to decriminalize marijuana.
Jasmine Crockett, the Pot Queen? I can see the campaign ads now. Here’s where things get sticky for Crockett. Nancy Pelosi, at least, has claimed that her husband Paul is the stock whiz. Mikie Sherrill, now governor-elect of New Jersey, also made the same claims about HER husband. Jasmine Crockett? Not married. Her stocks are HER stocks.
The records obtained by the Free Beacon open a window into the personal financial life of Crockett, 44, who says she supports herself. “I have no husband, y’all. Never been married, never been engaged,” she told an interviewer in February, holding up her hands to emphasize the absence of a ring.
This means she does not have the fig leaf of spousal excuse (AOC could give her some lessons about getting herself one), which means this is all on her. And now Jasmine Crockett is being hit with an ethics complaint that, if it goes all the way up the ladder, could have some pretty far-reaching consequences.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a nonpartisan watchdog group that filed a complaint with the Office of Congressional Conduct, believes Crockett’s failure to disclose her complete stock portfolio to Congress may mean she violated the Ethics in Government Act. Under that law, politicians who knowingly and willfully file false financial disclosures can face prison time.
“When Members of Congress fail to accurately and fully disclose their financial interests, it undermines the integrity of our government and erodes the public’s trust,” FACT executive director Kendra Arnold told the Free Beacon. “The disclosure laws are not optional. They are essential safeguards that ensure lawmakers are not using their positions for personal financial gain. Given the inconsistencies in Rep. Crockett’s filings, an immediate investigation is warranted.”
FACT filed its complaint with the Office of Congressional Conduct, formerly known as the Office of Congressional Ethics, an independent entity the House of Representatives established in 2008 to conduct preliminary investigations into allegations of wrongdoing by members of Congress. Should the office investigate Crockett and find that she violated the Ethics in Government Act, it will have the option to refer her to the House Ethics Committee, which has the power to levy fines and other penalties against elected members.
Now, will Crockett actually see jail time over this? When pigs fly. Could she be slapped with some big fines and other censure by the House Ethics Committee? Absolutely. Will this hurt her possible run for Senate? In a general election, probably not – but it will be red meat for other Democrats to use against her in a primary.
In this current atmosphere, a hard left candidate like Jasmine Crockett absolutely has a shot at winning a Democrat primary for Senate. The only thing standing in her way? Other equally ambitious Democrats. If last night proved anything, the Democrat party is now controlled by the hard left with only one goal – power. If you have a “D” after your name, it doesn’t matter what kind of vile things you have spewed or who you want dead. This complaint against Crockett may not amount to more than a slap on the wrist (unless the financial penalties are large), but if we are fortunate, the consequences could end up haunting her in all future elections.
