Can they please shut up about Bobby Jindal now??

Can they please shut up about Bobby Jindal now??

Can they please shut up about Bobby Jindal now??

The idiotic left is trying to attack Bobby Jindal over Hurricane Katrina. What they’re angry about is this statement from Governor Jindal, back when he was Congressman Jindal:

During Katrina, I visited Sheriff Harry Lee, a Democrat and a good friend of mine. When I walked into his makeshift office I’d never seen him so angry. He was yelling into the phone: ‘Well, I’m the Sheriff and if you don’t like it you can come and arrest me!’ I asked him: ‘Sheriff, what’s got you so mad?’ He told me that he had put out a call for volunteers to come with their boats to rescue people who were trapped on their rooftops by the floodwaters.

The boats were all lined up ready to go — when some bureaucrat showed up and told them they couldn’t go out on the water unless they had proof of insurance and registration. I told him, ‘Sheriff, that’s ridiculous.’ And before I knew it, he was yelling into the phone: ‘Congressman Jindal is here, and he says you can come and arrest him too!’ Harry just told the boaters to ignore the bureaucrats and start rescuing people.

There is a lesson in this experience: The strength of America is not found in our government. It is found in the compassionate hearts and enterprising spirit of our citizens.

Of course, the liberals are hopping mad about this, led by that bastion of liberal wisdom, Keith Olbermann. Olbermann personally picked up the attack, claiming Jindal was 75 miles away in Baton Rouge and only viewed New Orleans by air:

Oh, but wait, Bobby Jindal wasn’t lying.

Whoops.

But then again, since when have liberals ever bothered with getting the facts right? Not only does Jindal have the truth on his side, there’s video evidence to prove it:

Not to mention yet another Jefferson Parish Sheriff is backing up Jindal’s story:

During Hurricane Katrina, I and former Sheriff Harry Lee were with (then Congressman) Bobby Jindal more than anybody else from the federal government. He didn’t wait for cameras or permission — he was boots on the ground, and anyone that disputes that obviously wasn’t in Louisiana.
— Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand, Democrat

Oh, and wait, there’s yet another eyewitness to the FACT that Bobby Jindal was indeed in New Orleans during the Katrina ordeal:

Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said Jindal appeared at the sheriff’s offices on the east and west banks several times in the days after the storm. The boat rescue holdup by federal response officials did occur initially as citizens brought their watercraft to a staging area in Jefferson Parish, he said. But the problem was resolved and the great majority of boats were deployed to the flooded areas of New Orleans later that day.

Teepell, who after the storm drove with Jindal to visit various sheriffs’ offices in his district, said he recalled being in Lee’s office in west Jefferson on several occasions in the days after the storm. Teepell said he remembers the phone conversation but did not know who was talking to Lee.

Lee was recounting the boat rescue story to the caller on the line, Teepell said. The phone call was not taking place while the boats were attempting the rescue operation, but some days afterward, Teepell said.

Even one of the Kossacks jumped in to defend him (and of course, was quickly shouted down by the rest of the Krazy Kos Kids).

I’m from New Orleans and Jefferson Parish, I’ve lived one of the worst nightmares in the country’s history, fighting with Repubicans to get aid to our area, fighting the right wingers who hate government, fighting to save my home, my business, and the homes and businesses of my friends and family. That’s what I’ve been doing, as well as staying active politically, chronicling the worst catastrophe, one caused by the Federal government, including trying to set the record straight.

If a politician did good during that time, including Nagin, who called out Bush for his failures (while no one else did), so be it. Jindal did good, call the St. Bernard Sheriff’s office, they were left on roof tops without water, without food for days, Jindal got it for them. Not Vitter!

1600 people died, friends committed suicide, this is a local issue, defending that Jindal did the right thing.

I never voted for him, I will never vote for him, because he’s a Republican who supports the likes of Bush, and the former governer Foster who cut medical care for the poor.

What else can I tell you? Life’s been hell since August 2005 and I’m doing the best I can. We all are. But thanks for questioning my motives. Appreciated.

I think we’ve established what the facts are. Jindal was indeed in New Orleans, on the ground, helping out during Katrina. But the facts aren’t good enough for the liberals, are they? He COULDN’T have been there!!!!

But hey, maybe Rudy Giuliani wasn’t really in New York for 9-11, either. These lefties should get some of their crack investigators on that one.

Oh, but wait! Jindal must not have actually done what he said he did because he never gave press conferences about it at the time!! So it CAN’T be true!

While the concept of a politician doing something solely for the opportunity of bragging about it to the country to make themselves look good obviously is one that happens quite often, we aren’t talking about President Obama right now. We’re talking about Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and it apparently never occured to these liberal McCarthys that perhaps he did what he did during Katrina just because it needed to be done — and not for the publicity. A novel concept in the world of politics, I know, especially for liberals, who only do good deeds for the sole purpose of making themselves look and feel noble and charitable.

This story, I think, just goes to show that liberals really should try to stick to their niche: attacking opponents using inflammatory rhetoric and emotion. Trying to debate using the facts is just something they can’t seem to get the hang of.

Great post! Lets hope the chattering idiots up in DC and NYC will see this. Unlikely. But definitely worth shoving down their throats.

    I never thought I’d see a coonass Asian-Cajun… but I guess that’s as unbelievable as a Indian-Cajun.

And they call us the racists? Great post, one to keep and spread!

Fred Thompson came on C2.0 at about 1:00, and gently told the Jindal critics to talk to the hand at one point:

Oh, how I wish FT were POTUS…

  • Jim Treacher says:

These guys are already so used to Obama giving a press conference every time he goes potty by himself. They can’t fathom the idea that Jindal might actually have done it not to help his political aspirations, but because it was the right thing to do.

Unfortunately, it is Cassy Fiano who has no grasp of the facts.

Jindal’s story has him in Sheriff Lee’s office at the very moment that Lee was yelling into the phone about boats and insurance and bureaucrats. We know now that this is not true, because Jindal’s own office has admitted that it is not true. They have released a statement that Jindal was, in fact, not in Sheriff Lee’s office at the time that Lee was allegedly yelling into the phone.

And Sheriff Lee, in an interview given before his death, told Larry King that he didn’t learn about the alleged insurance snafu until a week later:

“Those boats where not allowed to get into the water when they were needed and I just found out about seven days later one of the reason boats couldn’t get in was they didn’t have enough life preservers and some of them didn’t have proof of insurance.”

So the whole “yelling into the phone” shtick falls apart.

The facts show that Bobby Jindal is, indeed, a liar. It is to be expected that Cassy Fiano and her fellow wingnuts will once again ignore the facts. That’s what they do.

Meathead, oops Meatbrain (both are perfect identifiers), you need to go back to the Ben Smith reference and read the update. You might also want to review the video at the end of the update.

Then, of course, you will come back and apologize to Cassie, right?

    Rick

  • Cylar says:

Wow, a liberal calling someone else a liar. I…I’m…I’m speechless. Just…wow. I don’t know what to say.

  • meatbrain says:

“…you need to go back to the Ben Smith reference and read the update. You might also want to review the video at the end of the update.

Then, of course, you will come back and apologize to Cassie, right?”

Why, exactly, would I apologize to Cassy? Nothing in either the Politico update or the Lee video do anything to support Jindal’s version of events.

Jindal’s chief of staff Teepell says he heard Sheriff Lee yelling into the phone. Yes? So? What was Lee yelling about? Teepell is conveniently vague on that point.

Listen to what Sheriff Lee says in the video. Actually listen — don’t just look at the pretty pictures. Does Sheriff Lee mention trying to put boats in the water to rescue people from their rooftops? Nope. Does he mention yelling into any phones? Nope. Does he mention bureaucrats or insurance or registration? Nope. It’s a generic stump speech, nothing more.

Jindal’s story doesn’t hold up against the facts — against what Sheriff Lee himself has said. Bobby Jindal is a liar.

No wonder Cassy is so enamored of him.
