So if a business tycoon with no political experience can become President, how about a best-selling author?

We may just find out, because author Brad Thor announced on Saturday night that he’s challenging President Trump in 2020. He also said he would “clean Trump’s clock.”

In case you’re like me, and not into spy novels, allow me to fill you in. Brad Thor is the author of the best-selling “Scot Horvath” thriller series. He’s also a member of the Heritage Foundation, and has collaborated with the Department of Homeland Security. He’s a patriot, and his conservative bona fides are sound. And yes, “Brad Thor” is his real name.

Thor was pretty much a ‘Never Trump’ guy for a while during the 2016 election. However, when faced with either Trump or the prospect of a President Hillary Clinton (gulp), he had a change of heart. Here’s how he explained it to Dana Loesch on The Blaze network:

But that was then. Now Thor has become disappointed in the Trump Presidency.

Thor also challenged President Trump to a debate. Mano a mano, I guess.

Then he started thinking about running for President. . .

And then, voilà! Thor was in.

Conservative Erick Erickson — the original “NeverTrumper”— is delighted, of course.

And Washington Times writer Larry O’Connor says it’s “fascinating.”

Conservative pundit Jim Treacher made this quip:

Whereas John Ziegler, conservative columnist for Mediate, said ‘meh.’

Well, dear readers, I don’t know about this. Yes, Thor is a highly successful author, plus he’s younger and better-looking than Trump. However, challenging Trump is a pretty tall order, and while Brad Thor is certainly a dedicated conservative, does the Republican party even care anymore? If the American voter sees a fatter wallet, a stronger military, and increased security at our borders and overseas, then I’m not sure that Thor’s principles will make a hill of beans worth of difference. Plus, Trump actually ran businesses, while Thor has not.

Then again, no one thought Trump would win in 2016, either, and look where we are now. It’s still a long road to 2020, but it’s already becoming interesting.

Kim is a pint-sized patriot who packs some big contradictions. She is a Baby Boomer who never became a hippie, an active Republican who first registered as a Democrat (okay, it was to help a sorority sister's father in his run for sheriff), and a devout Lutheran who practices yoga. Growing up in small-town Indiana, now living in the Kansas City metro, Kim is a conservative Midwestern gal whose heart is also in the Seattle area, where her eldest daughter, son-in-law, and grandson live. Kim is a working speech pathologist who left school system employment behind to subcontract to an agency, and has never looked back. She describes her conservatism as falling in the mold of Russell Kirk's Ten Conservative Principles. Don't know what they are? Google them!

This is the same Brad Thor who said on the Glenn Beck show in May of 2016,
“If Congress won’t remove him from office, what patriot will step up and do that if, if, he oversteps his mandate as president, his constitutional-granted authority, I should say, as president.”
Implying assassinate Trump? And we ought to vote for him in 2020?

while Brad Thor is certainly a dedicated conservative, does the Republican party even care anymore?
Well, some significant portion of those who have once identified as Republican care.

I only hope that he does this without undercutting Trump – keep it a fight for the principles of conservatism. While I would much prefer a real conservative to Trump, we certainly don’t need to split the support for the Republican ticket and hand the election to the Communists Democrats.

    Let’s see:
No wall. — Needs funding, That’s on Congress.
No end to ObamaCare. — John McCain. Move to Arizona and run for his seat.
Planned Parenthood Fully Funded. — Again, Congress. Move to Tennessee and run for Mitch McConnell’s seat
HUGE deficit + debt. — Again, Congress.
Trump doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. — He’s getting Baby Kim to the negotiation table.

Do you really want a president who can lead Congress around by the nose? That’s not what the Founding Fathers wanted.

    • GWB says:

On the “no wall”, “funding PP”, and “HUGE deficit” bits: Trump signed. He could have vetoed. That’s what the Founding Fathers would have wanted.

Unfortunately, any Conservative that gets in office is stymied similarly to President Trump. Can you imagine how Ted Cruz would have been treated had he won the Presidency? Trump appears to be quite adept at handling the media, notwithstanding their hatred of him. It’s the hatred of him I really don’t get. Yes, he can be brash, arrogant, and he shoots from the hip. But he is a patriot and I believe he is doing his best to do right by the country. His signing of legislation that is so repugnant to some of you he explained already, saying he did so in order to fund our military. I’ll buy that. Trump is the right man at the right time. If you are not a Liberal and yet you hate Trump, I do not understand your hatred. If you are a Liberal and hate Trump, why don’t you move to Venezuela or something.
