About Those “Republicans For Harris”

Let’s talk about those Republicans for Kamala Harris. Are they fake Republicans, well-known RINOs and/or (ick) Never Trumpers? Yes. More importantly, they can’t read the globe. The stock markets worldwide are drooping, a Kennedy left a (bear) body behind and the Middle East is en fuego. But sure, let the faux Republicans take out their piffle gripes against Donald Trump and the entire Republican voter base by endorsing Kacklin’ Kamala.

Reading the report from State Media Stenographer, MSNBC, about the “launch” for Republicans for Harris is like reading a career obituary column:

Nine days into her 2024 candidacy, Vice President Kamala Harris picked a couple of notable Republican endorsements: Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan threw his support behind the Democrat fairly quickly, and John Giles, the mayor of Mesa, Arizona’s third-largest city, endorsed her soon after.

Given the state of the cotemporary GOP, it’s not easy for any Democratic candidate to pick up cross-party backing, so this represented a decent start. But hanging overhead was an obvious question: Would other Republicans soon follow?

The question received a rather emphatic answer over the weekend. NBC News reported:

The Harris campaign on Sunday unveiled more than two dozen endorsements from Republicans, including former governors, members of Congress and Trump administration officials. Many of the endorsements came from politicians who were already openly critical of former President Donald Trump, including former Republican Gov. Bill Weld of Massachusetts; former Rep. Denver Riggleman, R-Va.; and former Trump administration press secretary Stephanie Grisham.

Those names are, of course, just a sampling. According to a press statement from the incumbent vice president’s campaign, Republicans for Harris includes endorsements from former Trump White House officials Stephanie Grisham and Olivia Troye; former Secretaries Chuck Hagel and Ray LaHood; former Governors Jim Edgar, Bill Weld, and Christine Todd Whitman; former U.S. House members Rod Chandler, Tom Coleman, Dave Emery, Wayne Gilchrest, Jim Greenwood, Adam Kinzinger, John LeBoutillier, Susan Molinari, Jack Quinn, Denver Riggleman, Claudine Schneider, Christopher Shays, Peter Smith, Alan Steelman, David Trott, and Joe Walsh; and former GOP State Chair and State Senator Chris Vance, among others.

Puh-leeze! Christie Todd Whitman! Last any of us heard of the former New Jersey governor she was patting down a Black suspect while she was on a police ride along. If the picture wasn’t ridiculous enough, Todd Whitman was wearing a country club track suit and tennis visor. While the Dems are picking over old elephant bones, could they grab Mitt Romney and Mike Pence too, please.

Old bones and Yogi is correct about the rest of them:

I get Democrats being excited for Kamala over Crooked Joe. Kamala has a measurable pulse. Yipee! But, do the Dem Poohbahs really think Never Trumpers are going to pull a material number from Trump?

Naturally, the Dems will get Mitt, but they really, really want Mike Pence. From the always nasty The Hill:

Olivia Troye, an ex-national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence, called Sunday on her former boss to endorse Vice President Harris’s presidential run, calling it the “right thing” to do.

Troye, who emerged as a vocal Republican critic of the Trump administration since leaving the White House in 2020, told MSNBC anchor Alex Witt it would be an “amazing dream” if Pence threw his support behind Harris, who officially became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee last week.

“And if [Pence] out there listening right now, I encourage you to do the right thing,” Troye said Sunday.

“Again, you’ve shown tremendous courage in the past. You know what’s at stake more than anyone here and your voice can make an enormous difference for conservatives across the country,” she said.

Troye is part of the Harris campaign’s newly launched “Republicans for Harris” group, made up of more than 25 Republicans. As part of the group’s launch Sunday, Troye said the stakes of this election are “too high to let partisanship jeopardize our freedom and the Constitution.”

This would be par for the course for Pence. Meh. Not going to convince anyone.

This “movement” is astroturf. Nothing organic about it. Possibly remunerated:

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the firehose of ugly coming at us, have a cup of tea and a lie down. You will feel better.

  • I see one name missing here. Was Lyin’ Lizzie not even invited into the cabal? That’s gonna make her very, very, mad – not even being viewed as a useful traitor any longer.

By the way, Duncan is no longer a Republican. The Georgia GOP Chairman is cleaning up the rat poop. (Still needs to eject Kemp and Raffensperger, among many others, but it is a start.)
