Everyone knows that Chicago cops are some of the most racist police in the US. After all, Obama’s justice department, under Loretta Lynch, found that “Chicago police regularly engage in excessive force.” This, according to a report which the DOJ released in January, 2017. It was one of Obama’s final shots before Trump became president.
Here’s what the DOJ wrote:
“Blacks, Latinos, and whites make up approximately equal thirds of the population in Chicago, but the raw statistics show that CPD uses force almost 10 times more often against blacks than against whites.”
Except that conclusion is wrong, according to a writer at Medium.com. David Shuey poured over national and Chicago area stats to come up with a very different narrative. Here’s his very interesting chart comparing Chicago cops with police nationwide:
Well, now, isn’t that interesting? It appears that Chicago police use less force per arrest when compared to police nationally.
And guess what the body count is for people killed by police in Chicago last year? Eleven. Just eleven, with twelve people wounded. Some ‘excessive force’ there.
But wait, there’s more. If you’re a white or Hispanic perp in the US in general, you’re more likely to be killed by police during an arrest than a black perp. Even then, the numbers show that cops aren’t blowing away suspects willy-nilly, as the media would have you believe.
So why is this important now?
It’s because Chicago is on the cusp of enacting the Chicago Police Department Consent Decree, which will further hamstring Chicago’s beleaguered police.
But Chicago needs to reform its racist police, or something.
Meanwhile, three weeks after Chicago’s Shoot-a-Rama where 75 people were shot over a weekend — 12 of them fatally — guess how many suspects the police have in custody?
One. Just one. And it doesn’t look too promising that police will arrest all the shooters, either, since the current homicide clearance rate is less than 15%.
So what about Mayor Rahm Emmanuel’s plea for people in violent communities to “speak up. . . come together”? Because “the city will be with you”?
Kind of like Rahm himself is with folks in the community. Like he is here, posing with a “supporter” who’s making gang signs.
Now let’s face it — no matter how much Rahm wants people to ‘speak up,’ folks won’t snitch. They’d kind of like to stay alive. They don’t want to be looking down the barrel of a Glock .40 while some gang-banger points it in their face.
In the meantime, Chicago media call for Chicago cops to be a “trustworthy community presence.” Because, as they write:
“. . . many minority residents fear the police because of the department’s troubling record of tolerating excess force and abusive behavior.”
So what else is the media calling for? The Consent Decree, which among other ‘reforms’ (read: hog-tying police) hands oversight to a federal judge.
Even though Chicago cops are less trigger-happy than most other police — who really aren’t that eager to draw weapons, either.
Meanwhile, while the nation was aghast at a shooting at a gaming tournament in Florida, where two people died, it was just another weekend in Chicago. On Friday night, three people were shot to death, and 11 were wounded. Never mind, though. The shiny object, you see, was in Florida.
But, according to the media narrative, let’s blame the racist, trigger-happy Chicago PD for the city’s woes. Except they’re not so racist after all.
Kim is a pint-sized patriot who packs some big contradictions. She is a Baby Boomer who never became a hippie, an active Republican who first registered as a Democrat (okay, it was to help a sorority sister's father in his run for sheriff), and a devout Lutheran who practices yoga. Growing up in small-town Indiana, now living in the Kansas City metro, Kim is a conservative Midwestern gal whose heart is also in the Seattle area, where her eldest daughter, son-in-law, and grandson live. Kim is a working speech pathologist who left school system employment behind to subcontract to an agency, and has never looked back. She describes her conservatism as falling in the mold of Russell Kirk's Ten Conservative Principles. Don't know what they are? Google them!
Thanks Kim, this makes perfect sense…I mean seriously, when has ANYTHING the left has ever told us been true? If their narrative about Chicago was, it’d be an earth-shattering first….
Moreover, the odds of police killing citizens are lower in Chicago than in the US in general, too.
That is NOT what those statistics say. In “1 per ###,000”, the ###,000 is the denominator, making the Chicago fraction a LARGER number.
The point of that number is that the number is appreciably larger, but not nearly as large as the discrepancy between Chicago and the USA average in homicides.
The Chicago police have lots of issues, but it doesn’t appear racism is one of them.
But facts don’t matter to the progressives. Whatever it takes to achieve their power is OK with them.
One conclusion you can draw from that data is… if you want to do someone in, take them on vacation to Chicago. It’s unlikely the police will ever solve it.
Oh, as to the policiophobia……
The reason these folks fear the police is because they’re fed a steady diet of lies by their progressive masters. They are akin to the lies told about child safety (addressed by Kim here recently) and abortions, to name a couple.
Of course, there is an easy answer: if you fear the CHicago cops, then secede from the city, elect your own gov’t (and get your own trash services, etc.), and build your own police dept. You can have locals policing your neighborhood.
I can bet, though, because of certain cultural pathologies, it won’t work for long. But, at least, you couldn’t outsource the fault.
