The details are still coming in regarding the shooting this morning at Great Mills High School in Great Mills, Maryland. Two students were shot by another student. What we do know, already, is that the shooter was stopped – shot by the campus resource officer who was assigned to the school.
Initially, the two students and the shooter were listed in critical condition. The news has now broken that the shooter has died.

BREAKING: Sheriff: Resource officer fired at Maryland high school shooter who was fatally shot.

As of right now, there is a question of whether or not the officer shot the shooter, or if the shooter took his own life once he engaged in gunfire with the officer.
“Our school resource officer was alerted to the event. he pursued the shooter, engaged the shooter, fired a round at the shooter,” St. Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron said. “The shooter fired a round as well. In the hours and days to come, we’ll be able to determine if our school resource officer’s round struck the shooter.”
Regardless, the presence of the armed campus resource officer, and said officer’s immediate engagement with the shooter, including an exchange of gunfire, definitely turned the tables and kept this from getting any worse than it is.
The SRO took action.
The SRO limited the injuries.
The SRO did his / her job.
Unlike the Broward Country SRO at MSD in Parkland. https://t.co/fTI48fa8JI

Weird how when you don't abandon people to die, they don't. Speed, surprise, violence of action, bitches. https://t.co/tnZAe4SLPn

The people who use MSD to push gun control need to be reminded that their SRO and the #BrowardCowards didn’t do their duty.
The SRO at #GreatMillsHighSchool did their duty, and saved an untold number of lives.

There are sure to be more updates, but the sheriff’s office is giving updates. The male victim is reportedly stable, but the female victim is listed as critical.
I’m sure we will learn more details as time goes on (it is also reported that the shooter had a handgun), but the first thing to do is give credit where credit is due, and this school resource officer, who is apparently a deputy with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department. That officer has saved lives today in Maryland, and we all should be pushing to have that kind of security at all our schools.
Take note, Broward County.
Kudos to the officer.
I’m going to speculate this was not a mass murder in the making, but a specific dispute with this other student. Even then, it was still stopped by a good guy with a gun.
Story was nowhere to be found on YAHOO’s homepage. You had to click the news link to find it. But they did have the Donald Trump cheap story on th homepage, for the third day in a row. I guess having an armed officer stop the shooter didn’t fit the YAHOO agenda.
