The Japan Times is reporting that the United States deployed 3 Stealth Bombers to Guam overnight. Also, 200 airmen from Missouri were deployed to Andersen Air Force Base on the Island of Guam, a United States territory.
The Andersen Air Force Base website classes this as a short term mission in support of the U.S. Pacific Command’s Bomber Assurance and Deterrence mission and Andersen’s own Continuous Bomber Presence Mission. From the Andersen AFB website:
Since 2004, U.S. Air Force bombers such as the B-1B Lancer, B-52 Stratofortress and B-2 Spirit have been in continuous rotations to Guam. These bombers provide a significant rapid global strike capability that enables our readiness and U.S. commitment to deterrence, offers assurance to our allies, and strengthens regional security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. Bomber rotations also provide Pacific Air Forces and U.S. Pacific Command commanders a global strike and extended deterrence capability against any potential adversary and provides opportunities to strengthen regional alliances and long-standing military-to-military partnerships throughout the region.
May I just take a moment to say that the names of the air force bombers, the Lancer, Stratofortress and Spirit are wicked awesome. Here is how Fox News reported the Stealth Bombers movement:
Our “stable genius” President Donald Trump, in concert with our military generals, is trolling North Korea’s Kim Jung Un in advance of the 2018 Winter Olympics which will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea next month. Talks between Kim Jong Un of North Korea and Moon Jae-In of South Korea will allow North Korean athletes and officials to participate in the Olympics.
Trump is a troll level master, in my humble opinion. From the Japan Times article:
For his part, U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday appeared to play down the possibility of conflict, reportedly telling South Korean President Moon Jae-in that there would be no military action of any kind while the two Koreas continue to hold dialogue.
Still, Trump has repeatedly said that “all options remain on the table” — including military action — to rein in Pyongyang’s nuclear drive.
Those who study and engage in statecraft, like Hillary Clinton, John Kerry and Marie Harf, are likely appalled by this show of strength. Remember back in November, 2017 a few of our Lancer bombers flew over North Korea? Yup, right after that Kim Jong Un picked up the phone and called Moon Jae-in and said, “Hey, can we talk?”
Peace through strength is a beautiful thing and nothing says “Peace” like our beautiful B-2 Stealth Bombers. Don’t you think so, Kim Jong Un. Best of Luck at the Olympics.
Hello, Toni. Your link to the Lancer bombers flying over North Korea article goes to the statecraft definition.
I’ve always been fond of the age old expression: walk softly but carry a big stick. 😉
Our “stable genius” President Donald Trump, in concert with our military generals, is trolling North Korea’s Kim Jung Un in advance of the 2018 Winter Olympics which will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea next month.
Meh. As the article states, this is part of an ongoing series of deployments. This isn’t a sudden thing. It’s been going on for a number of years now. Just like not doing military exercises with South Korea during the Olympics – we never do military exercises where the Olympics are being held.
Now, Trump IS a master-level troller, but there’s not really any credit due him here.
Now, I think we should do a fly-by of the opening ceremonies. Maybe with one of each (B-1, B-52, B-2). Maybe in pre-contact with one each of our tankers. That sort of flying is impressive. But would probably violate the “oh, the Olympics brought peace to our world” shtick from the IOC.
Yawn. Kim knows that the US wont do anything.
Any attack on NK will result in attacks on Soeul and Japan. The world economy will tank. The Dow Jones will hit 10k.
Kim can take SK in a week. The US doesn’t have the capability to pull an Inchon any more.
US go nuclear? Not going to happen. All the fall out drifts to Japan.
Kim has us right where he wants us.
The only way this ends well is if China remove’s kim.
