The Trump campaign and its supporting cast of high profile endorsers was just handed a new chaotic twist. Eagle Forum’s Phyllis Schlafly is now in a major fight of her own, BECAUSE of her support for Trump.
In fact, she is facing a hostile takeover.
“At 2pm today, 6 directors of Eagle Forum met in an improper, unprecedented telephone meeting. I objected to the meeting and at 2:11pm, I was muted from the call. The meeting was invalid under the Bylaws but the attendees purported to pass several motions to wrest control of the organization from me. They are attempting to seize access to our bank accounts, to terminate employees, and to install members of their own Gang of 6 to control the bank accounts and all of Eagle Forum.
“. . . This kind of conduct will not stand and I will fight for Eagle Forum and I ask all men and women of good will to join me in this fight.”
*picking jaw up from the floor and uttering multiple times – Holy Crapola!
Many were shaking our heads in disbelief that Schlafly, one of this country’s greatest conservative icons who led the defeat of the Equal Rights Amendment in the ’70’s would, at the age of 91, side with Donald Trump. It just seemed like something straight out of The Onion!
We couldn’t quite figure out how Trump on March 11, just prior to her endorsement speech, convinced her that he would fully support the Republican platform developed in 2012. Particularly in light of his many MANY changes in stance up to that time regarding any and all issues near and dear to the Eagle Forum.
Given the news this afternoon, it is evident that many on the board were not happy with Schlafly’s support of Donald Trump and the fallout from it.
Not only is Phyllis not thrilled with the threat of a hostile takeover, she is definitely NOT thrilled with many on the board, including her own daughter.
Schlafly asked board members Eunie Smith, Carolyn McLarty, Anne Cori, Rosina Kovar, Shirley Curry, and Cathie Adams to step down in an April 10 letter. Cori is Schafly’s daughter. All but Curry have endorsed Ted Cruz in the Republican presidential primary.
In fact, she put that particular request in writing yesterday.

Which likely led to today’s emergency board call which Schlafly vehemently opposes, and the ouster of Board President Ed Martin, effective immediately.
What will happen next? Who knows. However, one thing is clear, Phyllis Schlafly’s support and endorsement of Donald Trump has hurt the brand and the reputation of one of the staunchest conservatives this country has ever seen. What other wreckage will Trump leave in his wake? I shudder to think.
So you’re blaming Trump for this?
Doesn’t the blame rightfully rest with the board members?
It sounds to me they have acted improperly, and should be removed if they won’t follow their own rules.
Merle
Can you share the by-laws provision that forbids a majority of the board from convening and conducting business so? What do you “feel” they acted improperly?
The article in no way blames Trump, merely references him as Schafly’s endorsement of Trump may have led to this sequence of events. There is not enough information to determine whether or not the board members violated any of the bylaws of Eagle Forum.
Mr. Martin’s false narrative against the Convention Of States is not winning folks over either. Ms. Schlafly’s support of Trump is her own but I find it rather hypocritical.
Unfortunately, it appears Phyllis is no longer able to think rationally and has in one fell swoop has caused many to doubt her life long work after being conned by a con=man. You hate the idea that these things happen to seniors. I know because I am in my 60’s and wonder how they fall for these people. Trump is no different than a Nigerian bank scheme that so many seniors have fallen for. Sad really.
Anyone supporting the Convention of States has either not thought it through well enough, is being misled, is misinformed, or has an ulterior motive. Mrs. Schafly is right in not trusting any Republican.
