President Barack Obama welcomed Pope Francis to the United States and the White House with his usual rhetorical flourishes and two dollar ideas. Like many politicians, Barack Obama uses a great many words to say absolutely nothing of substance.
Mr. Obama clearly sees the Pope as a fellow traveler from an ideological point of view. Indeed, on climate change, immigration and Cuba, the President made clear in his remarks that he considers the Pope an ally. And, in treating the Pope as a social justice ally, Mr. Obama lectured us all on “the least of these”.
You call on all of us, Catholic and non-Catholic alike, to put the “least of these” at the center of our concerns. You remind us that in the eyes of God our measure as individuals, and our measure as a society, is not determined by wealth or power or station or celebrity, but by how well we hew to Scripture’s call to lift up the poor and the marginalized, to stand up for justice and against inequality, and to ensure that every human being is able to live in dignity – because we are all made in the image of God.
Who among all peoples is the “least of these” if not the unborn, the fetus, the child in the womb? And, yet even as Barack Obama played preacher in the pulpit (where is separation of church and state when you really need it?), the Obama Administration has threatened to veto a bill defunding Planned Parenthood and a second bill, H.R. 3504, called the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
When Barack Obama is not worshiping himself in the mirror, he kneels at the altar of the progressive sacrament of abortion. Abortion must be protected at all costs. Despite medical advancements, that allow us to know the viability of an in utero child, the pro-abortion crowd still lives in a world 45 years ago.
Barack Obama has made no secret of his love of abortion. From his vote on late term abortion, in 2003 as as Illinois State Senator to his infamous remarks about not wanting his daughters “punished with a baby”.
Barack Obama loves the Biblical exhortation from Matthew 25:
4 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
Barack Obama wants “the least of these” taken care of, once they make it to the cradle.
