The old saying that “all politics is local” was definitely brought to the fore when a woman, in a full tent burka, stepped up to the comment section of a county commissioner’s meeting to blast a recording of the Islamic call-to-prayer. We have questions.
A woman wearing a burka was escorted out of a Florida county commissioners meeting on Tuesday after playing a recording of the Islamic call to prayer during the public comment period where residents spoke against the potential expansion of a local mosque amid concerns from some over its wording on zoning and agenda materials.
The incident occurred as the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners was listening to residents address the board. A woman covered head-to-toe in black, with only her left eye visible, and approached the podium. Rather than making a verbal statement, she activated a recording of the call to prayer.
Here, watch the segment (via FoxNews):
The NPC female (and we’re assuming the “female” descriptor here) was told by Board Chairman Dave Eggers that playing taped testimony wasn’t allowed per rules. He/she refused to voice any comment and she was subsequently removed by a sheriff’s deputy.
Cue the ensuing kerfuffle.
Her removal sparked immediate friction in the room, with several audience members shouting and arguing with Eggers over the decision.
“Please. Just please exercise some decorum and kindness of your own,” Eggers told the audience. “We’re all people living together here.”
That’s the rub. How much togetherness is actually going on Pinellas County? That night’s meeting was about zoning to allow a rebuild and expansion of a local mosque and many residents in the community felt that the Pinellas County Commissioners had been hiding the ball on the proposal.
The incident came during a public period where multiple residents decried an Oct. 13 vote in which the board voted 4-3 to approve a land-use amendment for the expansion of the Masjid Al Rahman mosque, which was referred to in presentations and documents as a “community assembly facility.”
The vote changed the property’s land use from residential rural to public and semi-public, which would allow the facility’s owner to replace the building with a newer structure 1,000 feet larger.
Ruh-roh. “Community Assembly Facility”? Looking at that agenda item, people should be excused for assuming a … you know … a community assembly facility. Something like a county-owned or leased auditorium that would hold community events or be available to rent for any number of private events. But how much “community” will be allowed inside such a space that is really an expanded mosque?
:::cough::::Dome of the Rock :::cough:::Hagia Sophia:::cough::::
So what was the purpose of the Burka Person? Was it a subversive protest by clearly demonstrating what could easily happen with the expansion of mosques akin to New York City where the call-to-prayer has grown in frequency and volume.
Or was it merely a prank, a way to thumb a nose at people who dared to object to the rezoning?
And there is the intimidation factor … a call to the kaffir in the county that their days are numbered and not accepting the inevitable will bring righteous intimidation.
New York City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov (R-District 48) has sparked intense debate after posting video footage of dozens of Muslim men performing prayers on the sidewalk directly in front of an all-girls Jewish school in Midwood, Brooklyn.
The incident occurred on Friday, May 15, which coincided with Nakba Day, a date marked by pro-Palestinian observances.
The incidents of Muslims deciding to make a spectacle of spreading rugs to pray in public has been on the rise.
Tonight, as I was leaving a restaurant on 14th Street in New York around 10 p.m., this Muslim woman took a prayer rug and a niqab out of the trunk of her car, put the niqab on, laid the prayer rug down, and started praying on the street.
I grew up as a Muslim in the Islamic world, and let me tell you: this is absolutely part of an organized effort to flood the public square in the West with Islamic symbolism.
And we can easily look to Dearborn, MI, of what happens when these alleged good community members gain a majority.
At a Dearborn City Council meeting last week, Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud told local resident Edward “Ted” Barham, a Christian, that he was “not welcome” in the city after Barham raised concerns about new street signs honoring Arab American News publisher Osama Siblani.
Barham introduced himself as “Ted Barham, Dearborn resident,” and objected to two intersections being renamed after Siblani.
He said, “He’s a promoter of Hezbollah and Hamas” before quoting past remarks from Siblani, including, “He talks about how the blood of the martyrs irrigates the land of Palestine … whether we are in Michigan and whether we are in Yemen. (snip)
Mayor Hammoud responded with remarks that shocked many in attendance. “The best suggestion I have for you is to not drive on Warren Avenue or to close your eyes while you’re doing it. His name is up there and I spoke at a ceremony celebrating it because he’s done a lot for this community,” Hammoud said.
He went further, accusing Barham of being “a bigot, and you are racist, and you’re an Islamophobe,” before declaring: “Although you live here, I want you to know as mayor, you are not welcome here. And the day you move out of the city will be the day that I launch a parade celebrating the fact that you moved out of this city.”
Whatever the real motivation of Florida Burka Woman, the warning is clear. Pay attention to what happens locally least you wake up to a nation you don’t recognize.
