Salon’s Amanda Marcotte has once again wandered deep into MAGA America. And once again, she has returned with tales nobody who actually lives here recognizes. This time, conservative Christian women are apparently miserable, their husbands are hopeless, and “wife schools” are trying to hold the whole mess together.

I guess Amanda Marcotte has added MAGA marriage counselor to her résumé.

And maybe Amanda found all the fake tradwife accounts.

We really need to start asking ourselves: What kind of country do we want to live in?

The FBI just issued an internal memo warning law enforcement and ICE agents about activists creating fake “tradwife” dating profiles to doxx them.

Because at this point, I’m pretty sure the Left spends more time following “tradwives” online than actual conservative women do.

Mandy’s Sources

Marcotte’s evidence for this sweeping diagnosis of conservative Christian marriage is a collection of social media influencers most of us have probably never heard of. Leading the parade is Savanna Stone, whom Marcotte describes as a 21-year-old “self-proclaimed marriage expert.”

Twenty-one.

God bless her, and I hope she has a wonderful marriage. But come on. At 21, you’ve barely had enough time to be married, much less become an expert at it. I’ve been married long enough to know that the longer you’re married, the less likely you are to call yourself an expert.

Yet Marcotte takes Stone and a handful of other online personalities and somehow arrives at “MAGA husbands.” That is quite a journey. Christian becomes conservative, conservative becomes tradwife, tradwife becomes MAGA, and suddenly Marcotte is peering through the bedroom windows of half the country.

Dear Mandy, The Internet Is Not Real Life

To be fair, Marcotte didn’t invent everything in this article. Some of these women really are saying this stuff, and some of it is downright ridiculous. Apparently the internet has produced an entire crop of young women ready to explain marriage, sex, submission and how many household chores a wife should cheerfully absorb before breakfast.

Have at it, ladies. I’ve seen this song and dance come and go over the last 30-some-odd years. Now that I think about it, maybe Amanda has been writing comedy this whole time and nobody told us.

Where Marcotte loses me is when their opinions suddenly become evidence of what is happening in “MAGA marriages.” A few influencers say goofy things on podcasts and social media, and Marcotte turns them into representatives of conservative Christian women everywhere.

Then she takes it one step further. These women aren’t simply giving marriage advice Marcotte disagrees with. In her telling, their very existence proves conservative wives are unhappy, resentful, and trapped in a system designed to make their husbands’ lives easier.

And Then It Gets Weird

Marcotte spends an awful lot of time thinking about these women having sex with their husbands. She takes some admittedly strange marriage advice, mixes in chores, resentment and infidelity, and presents the whole thing as evidence that conservative Christian women are miserable.

Then we get to the housework. Husbands don’t make their own dentist appointments. They forget to take out the trash. One apparently might even forget to pay the electric bill.

Good grief, Amanda. That’s not MAGA. That’s two people sharing a house.

Sometimes husbands are annoying. Sometimes wives are annoying. Sometimes people are lazy, selfish or terrible at remembering appointments. And sometimes people on the internet give really stupid advice about how to deal with all of it.

But Marcotte needs every dirty dish and missed dentist appointment to mean something bigger. It can’t just be marriage. It has to be oppression. It has to be male dominance. And apparently, somehow, it has to be MAGA.

At the end of the day, Marcotte found herself a Wendy Williams Hot Topic to beef about. Tradwives are one of those internet subjects everybody has an opinion about, a few of them are always saying ridiculous things, MAGA can be worked into the headline, and apparently Amanda needed something for Monday morning.

About The Tradwife Rebellion

Amanda, it’s sort of funny what happens when you actually talk to some of them.

There is another take on the tradwife trend that is actually worth watching. The reporter comes at it from the Left and is plenty skeptical of the conservative politics surrounding it, but then she does something rather useful.

She goes out and talks to the women instead of watching 20 second clips on TikTok.

And wouldn’t you know it, things get a little more complicated.

One of the most interesting parts has nothing to do with MAGA husbands at all. The video looks at the rise of the tradwife trend partly as a reaction to the girlboss era. Young women watched the generation before them climb the corporate ladder, chase careers and try to have it all, and some of them are apparently looking at that deal and saying no thanks. The reporter herself acknowledges becoming disillusioned with the whole girlboss thing and understands why a slower life centered around home and family might appeal to younger women.

Well, well, well.

I seem to remember writing something just yesterday about feminism and its pesky fine print.

And after actually spending time with these women, the reporter reaches an interesting conclusion: most women aren’t making decisions about marriage and family because of social media trends or political propaganda.

Maybe MAGA Isn’t The Problem Here

Marcotte ends her Salon article by asking why there is a Wife School but no Husband School, before concluding that men are perfectly happy with this arrangement because it exists to serve them at a woman’s expense.

Or maybe a few women on the internet have figured out there’s money to be made telling other women how to run their marriages. Welcome to social media. There’s probably somebody over on TikTok right now offering a twelve-week course on how to load the dishwasher with biblical purpose.

But Marcotte didn’t write a story about silly internet marriage advice. She wrote about MAGA husbands, because apparently even marriage, sex, dirty dishes and dentist appointments must eventually be dragged into politics.

Amanda, the MAGA wives and husbands are going to be just fine.

Maybe switch to decaf.
