Piers Morgan has a new TV program, “Uncensored,” on the Rupert Murdoch network. So to kick off the new show, which will premiere on April 25, Morgan scored an interview with none other than Donald Trump. However, it didn’t turn out well, according to the promos. Trump, in fact, walked off the set in a huff.

Well, that was a real fustercluck, wasn’t it?

Piers Morgan described what happened in a New York Post opinion piece published on Wednesday afternoon. Someone, he wrote, passed a paper to Trump which contained negative comments Morgan had previously made about him. Someone, Morgan infers, was apparently out to undermine his new show:

“But as I hurriedly scanned the three-page white paper document, my heart sank.”

“There were several dozen comments from me, taken from columns I’d written and interviews I’d given, in which I was savagely critical of Trump’s conduct in the last year of his presidency, from his woeful handling of the coronavirus pandemic to his refusal to accept defeat in the 2020 election, and the appalling January 6 riot at the Capitol that followed.”

“Whoever sent it knew exactly what they were doing.”

Then Trump entered the room, ready for his interview. Wrote Morgan:

“He was staring at me across his desk with undisguised fury, clutching the document titled “Piers Morgan Comments About President Trump.”

And … the interaction went downhill from that point, said Piers Morgan, as Trump read the notes aloud.

”What the f–k IS this?” he snarled …”

“Trump’s a supreme narcissist …”

“His pathetic antics in the past few weeks since losing the election in November have been utterly contemptible.”

”Trump’s now too dangerous, he’s morphed into a monster that I no longer recognize as someone I considered to be a friend and thought I knew.”

According to Morgan, Trump called the comments “a hatchet job,” although Morgan was able to calm Trump down by praising his golf game. Ten minutes later, Trump was ready for his interview, which, according to the video, also went south. I guess Piers Morgan is no longer on Trump’s Loyal Friends list.

Reaction by Trump Fans and Foes

British tabloid The Sun poked fun of Trump in the interview, calling him “Grumpy Trumpy.”

Plus, the Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh took Trump to task for even sitting down with Piers Morgan, tweeting:

“Don’t feel sorry for Trump here. Why in the hell would you sit down for a pre-recorded interview with Piers Morgan? Anyone who’s been around media or politics for 15 seconds should be smarter than that. Trump’s been around it for decades. Inexcusable gullibility.”

While Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) tweeted:

“I hope President Trump sues Piers Morgan over this.”

First of all, sue Morgan over what? Sorry, but that’s not how it works. Besides, Cawthorn’s comment is pretty rich after he accused his Congressional colleagues of holding cocaine-infused orgies — yet never provided names or evidence.

But More About that Piers Morgan Interview…

Hold on — apparently that interview with Trump didn’t go quite like Morgan would have you believe.

According to NBC News — yes, NBC News! — Trump did not storm off the set. In fact, NBC received an audio recording from Taylor Budowich, Trump’s communications director, which shows a very different ending to the encounter:

“That was a great interview,” Morgan says in the audio at the end.

Trump agrees with a “yeah.”

“Thank you very much. I really appreciate it,” Morgan says.

That’s when Trump says, “Turn the camera off.”

Budowich added that the show purposely edited the video to make it seem like Trump was ordering the crew to “turn the camera off” while he was rising. In fact, he had already stood up.

Later, Donald Trump issued a press statement, which reads in part:

“Piers Morgan, like the rest of the Fake News Media, attempted to unlawfully and deceptively edit his long and tedious interview with me. He wanted to make it look like I walked out on the interview when my time limit of 20 minutes went over by an hour…”

“He went out of his way to deceptively edit an interview and got caught…”

As for Team Morgan: his producer did not respond to an email from NBC asking for further comment.

So Who Sent The Negative Notes to Trump?

As you recall, Piers Morgan accused someone of sending Trump a list of negative comments Morgan had previously written about him. He also inferred that someone obviously was out to undermine the interview. Or maybe even get the prickly former President to cancel the entire sit-down, thereby ruining Morgan’s inaugural program on the Murdoch network.

So who could that person be?

Supposedly the mysterious sender comes from London, and Morgan thinks that the scoundrel was none other than Nigel Farage. However, Allahpundit at Hot Air has a different suspect in mind: Piers Morgan himself.

“He’s not above a little “gamesmanship,” shall we say, in pursuit of a sensational story. Putting Trump in a bad mood before their televised sit-down in hopes that it would lead to conflict on camera would be a crafty move by a British tabloid journalist.”
