A quote: “In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.” ~~ Albert Camus
I’ll begin with a story …
*********************************
There were no summer people and winter was going to be as empty. As the first snows fell she did not feel the excitement of coming holiday but shuddered with fright of the empty streets and her dying bank account.
Even the Gray Wolf Tavern — where Micah had strung Christmas lights in the window and provided food and drinks to local bands if they’d come in and play – was dark as cash grew scarce and he couldn’t extend the tabs anymore.
She turned off the tv so her landlord wouldn’t come knocking and watched the gentle snowflakes and wept.
*********************************
Now, it’s your turn.

When I was growing up, my friends and I saw this as a town to be from. It’s not that we were unhappy but we wanted to get out in the world and see things.
And I did. Five years in one battlefield after another. Three years in college to earn a degree and then four years in high stress jobs to finally realize that the town wasn’t really that bad.
I park the car. The falling snow mutes the world and the lights from the bridge shine as if welcoming me back. It’s not a bad place to be from.
